I figured I'd post some of my photos of my rails in this thread for reference for anyone. One of my rails was super straight, the other was not (I believe it was the right one that wasn't, or top one in the side by side photos...) Behind the fence in the last photo is a post oak tree that has 4 trunks, I place the rail in there and gently tweaked it until I got it close enough for my taste. I also had to widen the slot some. The bed they came off of had been used to haul firewood, I think it was all loaded from the one side.
they get their rails from Dennis Carpenter. They don't carry them anymore. Hit and miss my friend. Obsolete Ford in Tennessee did have them listed but once again they are out of stock. Ebay or Craigslist, unless you get lucky and get them out of a junkyard. Good luck.
We will see what the crew has in the parts apartment of their garage. I happen to have a full set of brackets for a long bed. Which may or may not be useful since I believe you can still buy the brackets from Denis Carpenter. The rails for the long beds or what we will have problems sourcing. If nobody on this forum has any, I would suggest a few of the Facebook groups as long as you stay away from the scammers.
If this set or any other set of bed rails can be found I would be very interested in a 8' set for my 1978 Explorer
Thanks
Rick
I have a complete set of long bed ones, I could part with. PM me if you are really interested. Here is how I shipped the last set right before I put them all the way in and sealed them up. I then had to drive an hour (one way) to a walk in FED-X place. FYI These are not going to be cheap, they are OEM, NOT repops.
FYI, I just checked Denis Carpenter's web site. It shows that they only offer replacement bed side rail bracket kits for short bed dentside trucks, and they are out of stock. They do not offer complete kits with rails for dentside trucks at all. They do offer the long bed kits for bumpside trucks.
