Made the first trip towing my 5th wheel this weekend. Just a few observations. Any input or comments appreciated. 1.Set the cruise on 65 and got 11.4mpg on the way down, 11.0mpg on the way back. That's better than the 8.0mpg I usually get in the V10. 2.Used the tow/haul & cruised at about 2krpm, on most climbs in would gear down and run up to 2750rpm then taper off. 3.Fan came on on most climbs but only ran for less than 1 minute each time. If I knocked the cruise off, eased down on the pedal I could make the climbs without losing speed, or gearing down, and the fan would stay off. 4.Truck really gears down to stop in tow/haul mode. 5.Parked at Walmart. Hit the lock button, tossed the keys in my pocket, walked about 30ft and the truck started on it's own. It has a sticker under the hood that states remote start equippped. I discovered if I hit unlock 3 times on the keyfob, it will start. I guess the EGR/oil cooler repair worked it hasn't used any coolant. All things considered, I'm happy with the truck.
Glad to hear you are pleased. I really wish the cruise control worked better when towing the hills. I too take it off cruise control when I hit any significant inclines.
From what I read, the fan coming on when towing on inclines is to be expected. I haven't experienced it yet, but my towing is only 8k lbs and very few steep slopes.
I pulled the same 5th wheel all over the Rockies for 3 years with my V10. In the summer when the temp was 100 plus, the fan would come on and run for a while on grades. The engine or trans never overheated. I bought an extended warranty through Good Sams today. It was a little better than the one offered at Ford. The price was a bit higher but I chose to pay each year and a $500 deductible so its more economical too. The main thing that drove me away from Ford was no coverage on the fuel injectors, oil cooler, and EGR cooler. Good Sam covers the EGR cooler and injectors. Plus the Good Sams goes for 7 years instead of the 4 years Ford had. I hope it works out.
Damn, I read your post and ran out the front door to hit the key fab 3 times and all I got was unlocked doors. I was hoping. Neibors already think Im freakin nuts hahah

Yeah, Its just one of the great things you get to figure out when you buy a used truck.
