First off, I own a 2008 f-350 crew cab lwb. Has 167,000 miles on it, with egr & dpf delete, stage 3 afe intake, and an Edge evolution programmer. Recently the truck doesn't want to shift out of 2nd gear when tow/haul mode is engaged. Example: I was towing about 24,000 lbs GVW today, climbed a very long and steep hill for about 14 miles doing around 35-40 mph. Transmission temp hit 232 at the most, and cooled right down to 175 when I topped the pass......everything seemed fine. I came to a stop, checked everything out, then proceeded. When I turned onto the highway, it only would shift to 2nd gear, and wouldn't shift any more. I had the rpm all the way to 3500, and also down to 1200.....still wouldn't. I pulled over, took tow/haul mode off, let it idle for a few minutes, then it ran perfectly fine for the rest of the trip. This is the third time it has done this with tow/haul mode engaged.......Any suggestions?? Thanks!
I tried pulling codes with the programmer, and nothing shows up. I forgot to mention that the wrench symbol showed up a few times before, but when I shut the pickup off and restart it, it goes away..??

Sounds like you are kicking the transmission into FMEM (failure management). Stuck in 2nd gear only is either an FMEM response to the trouble code, or there is debris lodging the overdrive solenoid open.
From what we see in the shop, given the fact that A.) Truck has 167,000 miles, B.) Equipped with an edge programmer (not the most infallable transmission tuning) and C.) you tow heavy, I'd expect to see some overdrive and direct clutch damage inside of that transmission.
If you are able to get the codes checked and get back with it here, I can help pinpoint it further. You can also drain the fluid in the meantime, drop the pan, and see how much wear metal is on the magnet.
I'd drop the pan and inspect. If it occurs again, try swapping the solenoid. You can swap it with the solenoid for the overdrive or intermediate, and see if the problem moves.
If it continues to occur and the solenoid isn't the cause, unfortunately the trans will need to come out. A large number of internal problems could cause that, including a damaged low/reverse pack, damaged low/reverse one-way clutch, among others.
Sorry it's been so long since I've replied. Turns out the transmission was toast... I replaced the tranny with an ATS stage 2, and so far, I'm impressed. My next question is: Should I replace my tuner? I am currently running the Edge Evolution(2010 version). Is the Edge tuner hard on the transmission, and what tuner should I run that won't hurt the very expensive transmission I just installed? Keep in mind I have the DPF deleted. The EGR is disabled(I think), but still on the engine. I bought this truck used, and the previous owner told me the EGR is disabled, but not sure how, because the Edge chip has no option for this.....
