First Road Trip in New F-250

First let me say that I bought this truck after reading post by rvpuller and a few others on this site. My truck is a 2013 F-250, 6.2, 3.73, FX4, lariat ultumate package. I have a 34' 5th wheel rv that weights approx 10K empty. Mostly travel in east texas. First trip with RV was down into the Texas hill country, left home with 750 miles showing. From the start the truck performed beyond my expectations. As some of you had advised, I locked out 6th gear and pushed in the tow/haul. As it turned out that is all I had to do. Engine/Tranny did their jobs to perfection. Trip covered a little more than 700 miles towing and about 300 miles touring. Meter showed MPG at 8.0 on the first half of the journey and overall 9.2. So it seemed to be getting better with age as rvpuller says. To say the least I am one "Happy Camper" with my new 6.2 F-250.

Glad to hear the truck met your expectations. I also tow 10000lbs + but I tow a 33.5 ft bumper pull and I think the truck performs great.

If you are happy with it now just wait until you get a few more miles on it, we had 3K miles on ours when we left to come south and now it has 6K and it's like a different truck. I think pulling it really hard for 2600 miles made a big difference.

Denny, I was thinking that diesel was what I needed (but did not want one) until I read your post. After hearing your story it was a easy decision to buy the 6.2. I might add that I was pulling this trailer with a 6.0 GMC w/410 gears and it did fine. But this Ford is head and shoulders better than the GMC.

Congrats and glad you like the truck. We ran over 4000 miles down through Tennessee this summer with no issues and averaged around 8.8 for the entire trip. I use manual mode most of the time when pulling our 34 1/2 ft trailer as I find the computer likes to downshift too much in rolling hills. Now it may be different if I get a 5 Star tuner for it. BTW we are at just over 118,000 km on ours. Although we have only had ir for the last 20k of that.
