Nice call John! Quick help for the OP - how can it get any better than this at twice the price?

Also - great help w/ the part # and the suggestion to check w/ an International Dealership!

Alright I found out it's my ICP Sensor that went out. Does any one know where to get them cheap?
Thanks
Nick
Thanks to the OP for posting that it was the ICP. I always like to hear the details on what was found as the problem. Did you pinpoint the ICP by unplugging it as suggested?

(hint - hope there were some rep points sent Maxium's way)

Wow !!! this is probably the best post I have read. Here is the trail as I see it.

  • problem - truck won't start
  • suggestion- it is ICP
  • description of what ICP does and why could be problem
  • Confirmed as ICP
  • part # quoted
  • Problem fixed

This is a text book example of why I spend time on this forum - well done guys!!!

The vin number is on the driver side dash near the windshield. Look from the outside. Or your DMV registration.

Thanks so much! One more question does any one know what size of socket I need for it? Thanks so much
Nick
Also I just called the ford delar and I asked about the half way threw 04 thing and he said the only differences are between 03 and 04 which one should I get? My sensor was under the turbo by the way!

If your X is a early '04 which has a '03 motor with the sensor on the back side of the motor and not the valve cover you need a different part number. The 03's and early 04's use Ford part number 3C3Z-9F838-EA or International part number 1845274C92.

The ICP sensors on the '03 and early '04 were also known to leak oil which can foul up the ICP connector. If this is true for yours it would also be a good idea to install a new connector (pigtail) while you are in there. The Ford part number is 5C3Z-12224-A or International part number 1850712C92.

I do not remember the size socket you need for the sensor off hand. Im sure someone will be along shortly with that info...

Some people have used a 1 1/16th crows foot. Some people have ground down a socket. Still others have bought the special tool (way too expensive IMO). Below is another option:

First go from underneath, and take the heat shield off that blocks it. That is the hardest part. Then get a cheap 1 1/16ths boxed end wrench, and cut it right in half.

It should be about 5 inches long. Reach up, and unplug the sensor, you will see it up under the y-pipe if you look from the drivers side underneath past the tranny and exhaust manifold.

Stick the wrench up there, and slide it on, it should stay. You may have to use a long pry bar and tap it with a hammer to break it loose. Then reach up there, unscrew it, and screw the new one in and tighten it with the wrench. You are working blind, but its' not bad at all.<!--hi-->

Oh - and IMHO (as said before) - always replace the connector.

Since this thread grew and includes great information, it was suggested by Bismic that we include this in the Tech Folder. Thanks to everyone including the original poster for contributing and help other owners stay informed.

Thanks every one so much! I ended up using a 1 inch crows foot and grinding it down a little to make it fit. Then I went to 3 Ford Delars and no one had the right part so then I went to Napa and they had it for 38 bucks and it work's. Thanks again every one for your help!
