My 99 Ranger, whenever i turn on the A/C or MAX A/C n i have my foot on the brake like at a stoplight, the truck shakes a lot every about ten seconds.. the freon needs to be recharged but im not sure if thats a sign of the compressor going? any help....thanks-joe
Ok, first off, your truck doesn't use Freon. I know that many people use that term to describe refrigerant in general, but it is misleading to use it. Freon is R12, and your vehicle uses R134a. You should never ignore a system that is low on refrigerant. The refrigerant contains a lubricant. this lubricant is carried by the refrigerant to lubricate all the seals and the compressor. When you get a leak, this lubricant escapes along with the lost refrigerant. Without lubrication the compressor will fail.
If you can hear the compressor cycling that often, you need to get it checked out. There are a lot of other things that can cause the shacking and it may not be hte compressor. The compressor does not have enough mass to introduce a serious vibration. But if your engine has a weak cylinder or needs a tune up the load of the compressor at idle could cause shaking.
yeah youre right i just meant it as the R134a ****...but yeah thats what i figured somethings gotta be up if it shakes because its taking on another task of using the a/c
