Cab swap progress thread
First, here is where i was at by lunch, all trim, door panels, and headliner out:

After lunch the seat and floor cover came out, and this is the first time i actually saw how bad my cab really was:
Pass floor pan:

Found this mouse nest under the kick panel, from the trucks days as a lawn ornament.

Pass side cab corner, w/ another mouse nest:

After removing the nest:

Heres the rear wall and window, look, my truck''''s growing!!
VVV Do you see pavement VVV

And heres where its the worst, Driver side floor

Here is where the floorpan was seperating from the firewall. There was actually only about 3" of sheetmetal still holding the cab to the front left body mount.

So as you can see, just fixing my cab up really wasnt an option. Cant wait to get the new one on there, and be rid of all this rust!!
blue rebel what are you going to do with your screen name? or are you just going to paint the new cab blue so you don't have to change your name lol
and what are you doing with the doors, i'm looking for a set that i can chop up to make some half doors for my truck
Tried removing the windshield, but it cracked just as i got the first 1/2 peeled free.
Gonna keep the screen name,
Soon as i have enough money the trucks gonna get repainted back the original blue. I love that color, it sparkles so much when it looks nice
Gettin rid of the doors tomorrow, gotta let me know tonight if you want them or not, and how you can get them. Living at parents house, i got no where to store anything anymore. theyre yours free if you can get them.
More pics on the way NOW, just wanted to post this up before i started on my long post

Found this under the vinyl floor, thought it was kinda cool:

Here you can see my cab was actually growing green stuff! lol

The roof was dented and twisted too, even though far as i can remember no ones ever been up on it

ANOTHER mouse nest!!!

Dash is out

NEW CAB!!!

Look, almost no rust!!!

Pulling front clip off

Front clip off, start of a new day

There goes the cab, had to cut off 1 body bolt, other 3 came out surprisingly nice

off the truck

Love to do engine work now!!

Now we start puttin the 89 stuff into the 92 cab... bring on the HEADACHES!!!
89 Pedals into 92 cab

Found out the 2 cabs have different mounts for their pedal assemblys. Had to cut the one out of the 89, and weld it into the 92
89 mount

92 mount

on the 92 cab there is no hole for the dome light switch, had to drill and tap my own

had to cut a bit out of the 89 dash to get it into the 92 cab. not just the blue plastic either. underneith i had to trim out about 2" of the metal frame

Dont ask me why, but ford decided to move the upper seat belt mount 1". Gotta love the chits and giggles design changes

The window parts on the newer doors are different also, the crank rod sticks out farther. Heres my 89 door panel and 89 crank on the new 92 door

Throttle pedals changed also, here you can see my 89 pedal hooked up, with the 92 in the foreground. the 89 used small c channel, whereas the 92 used a bent flatstock for the brace. when i hooked everything up, the 92 pedal held my throttle open about 1/8"

Another shot of the 2 throttle pedals

Square hole, round plug? lol had to cut out the square hole, and caulk around the gap

Something that did fit nice, the 89 rear slider into the 92 cab

Buttoning up....

And ALL DONE!!!! (for the most part lol)

but then i figured mud would just get everywhere, so i ended up junking it

And here it is all loaded up, ready to hit the scrapyard tomorrow

Boy i gotta say, dogs really do know how to enjoy a nice sunny day! yes, i know we need to mow, but i had to get the cab outta the yard first!

As far as how things went... The cab itself bolted on real nice, 89 front clip bolted to it real nice, I did have to use the 89 cowl also. But with the interior, there were SO MANY little things that ALMOST fit. screw holes that ALMOST lined up. The HVAC ALMOST bolted right in. The dash ALMOST bolted right in. The trim panels ALMOST lined up w/ things. Honestly, if i had known how many little things were going to be different, i probably would have held out for an 89 cab. LOTS of little headaches, but definitly doable, long as you have a welder, cutting torch, and alot of liquid courage, lol. So, whaddya think?!
I really like the OTP news. That plant is still operational, and is running on paint fumes today!
How long did it take you to swap over and install everything? Looks like you did everything in one day!
Three days after i pulled her out of a field, and got it running:

And as of today:

The swap took about 4 days of hard work to do, but i didnt work hard every day, so it took me about a week. And thats with no air tools, no torch, and working by myself for most of the time. Had 1 guy helping 3 days, but that was it.
