Don't like stacks? I hear ya on some counts, some people went WAAAAAY overboard with oversized stacks, stacks sticking up too hight, blah, blah, blah, I kept mine somewhat discreet so they don't make such a bold statement. My opinion here is pretty much like everyone else, do the re-tune, gauges, etc., you'll be happy that you did. BUT, depending how you do the stacks, you still may want to consider them. Take a look at my truck to see what I mean, I just uploaded some pics to my album.

I have the TS 6 pos. chip and am quite happy with it, sure makes one HELL of a difference, love being able to switch on the fly, 140hp is my favorite setting. LOL!

Well, if you get Tony's tunes, you get free re-burns if you need it down the road. Not bad for $150. That's what I have right now, and I'm telling you -- you'll be amazed at the difference.

I would also suggest you get your trans mod'ed as well. If you do that first, you can have your tunes set up to match, and it's like a whole new truck. You can get a kit for ~$75, tunes for $150, and the rest for another mod. Do you have an aftermarket exhaust now? I also don't care for stacks, but I got yelled at for bagging on them a while back. Personally, I think they're tacky on pickups.

Curious now myself about Tony's tunes, may have to get my TS chip reburned for the BTS transmission. How can I get a hold of "Tony"?

I highly recommend getting Tony's tunes, way more hp than the TS programs!

I'm with Joe and Kris on the stacks. I was going to do them years ago (around 99-01) before anybody had them, just so my truck would be different. I didn't, but the craze took off and now everybody has them. On some trucks they look really good. On others, their just tacky.

To each is own, and that's why all of us and our taste in trucks and mods is different. I've got several friends that are over the road truckers and they used to cuss their stacks all the time. Especially w/ no mufflers up the back of the sleeper. They said it was so loud and annoying after a while. And from hearing others that have done no muffler with stack at the back of their pickup, they's loud and annoying over time.

I like mine out the side in the stock location. But I don't follow the angle cut straight chrome tip crowd on that either. EVERYBODY'S GOT THAT TIP!!! Me, I like a turndown tip that's not turned back, just straight down to the road. It's still loud, but the noise isn't bouncing off of everything beside me and the smoke isn't going out, but down and to the back.

That is an excellent point Soutthpaw!! Nearly any of the chip programmers can reburn that TS. PHP, TW, Cale, just to name a few. And you're right about the DP too. That is a downside.

To the OP:

If you don't already have an aftermarket exhaust, then get a good 4" turbo back system. That'll be in the area of $300-$400, maybe less depending on what brand you want to go with. Then spend $150-$200 on getting that TS chip updated with the programs of your choice. If you've already got the exhaust, then do as someone else said and look at a shift kit/ valve body, either DIY or one from BTS or JW. With those 3 things, you'll be right in your pricerange and will be really good to go for a while.

I'm with everybody else on the chip, on the exhaust, I like the cannon with no bling. It's cool watching people look at my truck because off the lift, but when they notice the 5" cannon aiming at them...........

Stacks look cool on semis. Get a 4" turbo back mandrel bent exhaust. Reburn your chip if you are not happy with it or do the valve body upgrade on the tranny. I know I'm a newbie don't take offense to my commit on stacks.

Yeah, you wouldnt believe how loud my single stack setup is.. Right at the center of the back window... combination with the injectors, headers, t6 turbine, loud droney stack, it's annoying. Too bad it looks so cool to shoot smoke out in the air, but it's comin off.

I was thinking about stacks for a bit but after hearing Raul have issues with cops here I think I'll pass. $600... You got quite a few options, I'd definately do something with the exhaust and at the very least a reburn to that chip. I drove on Jody's 120 tune all day yesterday, definately loved it.

I didn't read all the posts but this is how I'd do things and then you can decide for yourself...
Exhaust
Air intake
tuner...

Personally I've never been very fond of the stacks but it's personal opinion really.
