C3, C4, C5, C6, and E40D have return lines at the rear of the transmission.

Where is the best place to install one of those inline magnetic filters.

A magnet in the pan is probably best. An in line magnetic filter can restrict flow. If you are great with maintenance then you probably do not need this redundant device.
Should you desire to install one, universal kits come with clamps, so if clamps are used, these filters have to go on the return side if the trans has any miles on it.
For new systems, these style filters are suggested to be installed before the cooler to prevent the cooler from becoming contaminated.
Manufacturers instructions discuss this in detail...........

I think I will just go with the magnet in the pan.<O</O

Is it already there, does it come with a magnet stock or is it something that gets added later on? Where in the pan is the best place to put it, near the oil return line?<O</O

I will be dropping the pan to change the fluid and also draining the torque converter. I was planning on not changing out the filter if it looks nice and clean inside. I have read that the filter is really just a screen and does do much in the big picture. If I don’t R and R the filter there is less chance that I might mess up something. This will be my first time changing the fluid in an Automatic trans. I have not got a pan gasket yet, lots of choices on what they are made out of.<O</O

Thanks for the info.<O</O
