I have a line on a swap to a 300 six and the guy has a C-4 available. I want an auto for my convenience.
Is a C-4 a good reliable maint bet. Similar to a C-6 but what's the difference?
So it'd be safe to use behind a 300 six pulling a bass boat trailer occasionally. And other wise it'd be just fine. No different than a C-6 behind a small block V-8?
I can see some expenses coming up. If I dont have a Donor 300/C-4 I'm gonna have to come up with some linkages, a Torque Converter and a Auto TC plate.
The Steering column with the Shift indicator. What else?
C4-s were stock transmissions behind 300-6 and 302's in 60-70 era pickup trucks. Also very common in Ford cars. C4s can be built to take a beating as many Mustangs have them. The small block C6 I had supposedly came out of an Econoline Van. You may find an easier time with drivelines and what-not going with the C4
I thought it had two bands as opposed to one in the C6?
At any rate, I had one in my 69 F250 behind a 300-6, and it was decent. The only two problems were a torque converter noise that sounded like bad piston slap, and the nut on the yoke came loose. I put some RTV in the space behind the shaft splines in the yoke, and cranked the nut back down, no more leak and no more jumping speedometer.
