I don't think I have ever seen a C-4 with a big block bolt pattern. Anyway, they are not made for that kind of torque. You are right, you need a C-6. The FMX is an earlier auto, but C-6 was around a long time, so there are lots of them to pick from or rebuild. TCI new in the box C-6 runs about $750 plus shipping, but you can get a local one rebuilt for a lot less.
There were some car C4's with the big block 351M/400M/429/460 pattern produced in the mid 70's. These are highly sought after by the drag racing crowd as the C4 is a tough tranny that uses less power to drive it and weighs less that a C6. It does take some building (meaning $$) to handle the power of a built big block however. My .02

Do you have any idea what those "big block" pattern C-4's came in ? Iv'e sure never seen or heard that one before. It'd be worth lookin for if I knew what they came in. I know there were some early 351m/400's that had the small block bellhousing pattern.
I see where Lentech, (I believe) is making a 385 series bellhousing for the C-4, for the race crowd. That would enable you to use one behind a 351m/400 to I suppose.
forget about spending the extra $$ on a C4 that is built enough to take big block torque, just go with a rebuilt C6, that tranny is bullet proof, wont give you any problems (if its a quality rebuild) for the life of the truck providing it aint used for what it is intended for....so just get a C6 and forget the C4
I'm pretty sure my brother has a big block bellhousing C-4. I can't remember what he got it out of. I will probably swipe it from him to go into my mustang though.
But if you already have a M/385 bellhousing C-4 I would not hesitate running it. Actually, I would probably sell it and have the money for a fresh C-6. The C-4 is lighter, can handle the power, needs to be built with quality components, and uses less HP. Which is why drag racers want them. Sure you can buy a lentech or I think total performance is making one too, but why not splurge and get the glide adapter.

It might start slipping prematurely and you my find yourself stuck someplace. They mostly put c-4s in cars and bronco 2's
you should go with a c-6 they can handle more torque. I have 280K on mine and it is still going, and going and going.
