Can someone tell me what C4, C5, C6s were used for? I know C4 came with the 289/302 engines, in cars and pickups. C6 came with the 351-460.
But I've never seen a C5. What is the C5 for and where would I find one nested in? Is the C5 good/bad?
The C-4 was behind the 289-302, 351W, & C, and some 6 cyls. Their was even a C-4 used with the 351M. Drag racers like to get these as the bolt pattern on this C-4 bell lets them put a C-4 together with a 460.
The C-5 was used in the early-mid 80's. It is a C-4 with a lock-up torque converter for better mileage. A very few other minor internal changes also, but 98% of the parts will interchange.
The C-6 was available in 3 versions, FE's 352-428, 429-460 and small block. The small block version was mostly behind 351-W's, some 302's and also was common in trucks with the 300-6 cyl.
There was also a C-3. It's a light duty version of the C-4, found in the V-6 Pinto, Fairmont and Mustang.
Another tid bit. The "C" stands for 1960 and the 4 or 6 is the yr in thet 60's they were introduced. C4 is 1964, C6 is 1966. The 70's are "D", 80's "E" etc.
