I replaced the original battery on my 2002 Mecury Mountaineer. Since then my Keyless Entry Keypad doesn't work. I tried to reprogram using the Factory Default Code, but that doesn't work either. The Keypad will lock the doors, but that doesn't require a code. I believe the Factory Code is the same one as I used when the vehicle was new.
Also I can only program one Remote Door Lock. I can program the first one, but if I try to program another, neither will work. I have to disconnect the battery and start all over with programming.
The Keypad doesn't illuminate when I try to enter the Factory Default Code.
I located the Security Control box, and verified that the Default Code is the same as the one that I have been trying. Somehow the code must have gotten jumbled, or the box itself. The Theft Alarm seems to work OK, as does other things. It's only the Keypad and the second Remote that won't work.
The dealer wants $149.00 to run a diagnostic program. There is no gaurantee that it can be fixed with a reprogram. I can buy a used BCU from a wrecked vehicle similar to mine for $50.00.
My question is:
Can I swap the Body Computer from another vehicle without confusing the other Computers.
I ran an OBDII scan and did a reset on the one stored EGR differential pressure code. I have replaced that unit once already.
Have you thought about you having a bad keypad? To lock only requires #9 and 10 to be good. Even if you have only 1 pair of numbers bad, that's enough to screw you over. I think the pads are pretty cheap.

I pressed each pad, one at a time and observed that the light under the mirror goes on for each pad. I let the light go out before I tried the next one.
I thought that the keypad itself used to light up, but I don't think that it does now.
I waited until daylight was gone and checked the Keypad. It does light when a key is pushed. It can't be seen in full daylight, so I wasn't sure that it light up.
It could still be the Keypad, the light might be set in a different circuit than the Pad Encoder.
