The stream increases quite a bit just by turning the pump on with the return working (even in mine with the extra return via the CCK). If there's no return, it'll build up a butt load of pressure and shoot out of the fuel drain like a fire hose. Of course, you could just keep it closed, let it build pressure, then open it... Put your goggles on. 
I know this because when I pumped out my tank, I used the fuel drain with a hose on it and kept cycling the key until the tank was empty (only had a couple gallons in it).
