I installed a Super 40 Flowmaster SI/DO on my 2007 FX4 today and it sounds great. It now sounds like a pickup but is not loud and has no interior drone. I ran the duals out the stock location beside each other. I don't have the cash for those nice but even nicer priced stainless systems that most everyone wants. So all I'm sayin' is if you want it to flow better, sound good but not be to loud then consider this option. My camera is broke so I can't post pics. Sorry.
I love the Flowmaster sound - so enjoy that thing. I'm probably putting a 50 series SUV on my Explorer soon. I'm only doing single exit and not stainless either. It'd be nice to do those things but the budget doesn't allow that, and duals would be more complicated than I care to deal with right now.
My muffler shop told me when your get up in those 50 series SUV and above that in their opinion they begin to get overpriced, considering what you are getting. They said they would go with a Magna Flow for the money. You may want to research that a bit.
Sweeet. That's probably what I will do as well (One FM), but don't know if I'll pay for true duals and get two mufflers or not. New here and doing some research on what everybody has.
hey guys like all the talk but i have an 06 5.4 w/dual cat back exhaust and its a little loud for my liking what muffler should i get that would quiet it down some without losing flow? i dont know what's on it now as it was on it when i bought the truck but physically its just a little round thing
A "little round thing"? Sounds like you have glasspacks. If it were me and glasspacks were what was installed on my truck, I'd trade the glasspacks for a 40 series. I would think that would tone it down some from what you have now and still keep a good flow in your exhaust system. I'm sure others will have their own opinions.
cool thanks but would a 50 series be even quieter than a 40? Another thing is those flowmasters are a bit pricey; is there another muffler that would be cheaper and still be of decent tone and quality?
The 40 series Flowmasters are cheaper than the 50's, at least in my particular application. The 50's a little quieter, but just as an idea, the muffler that goes on my truck is about $135 straight from Flowmaster. Shop around between Flowmaster, Magnaflow, maybe Gibson for your specific truck...those are the three best that would give you good tone and quality. Maybe try looking at AutoAnything - one of the site's sponsors - and see what price you get there...I got a full Flowmaster cat-back kit for my Explorer for around $250. Just throwing some ideas out for you.

I really like the sound of the super40 Flowmaster SI/DO on my truck. The Super 40 will let it flow easily, give a great sound with no interior drone. If you want it to sound good without being to loud, you will like the Super 40.
