Muffler Selection

I'm looking at chopping off my stock muffler (truck in signature) and installing a Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow, with either just the muffler opening for an exit or a turnout pipe in front of the rear tire.

How will this sound? Truck has no mods.

How loud will it be? Really want to hear the exhaust, but can't be too loud. Preferably wife not hear it in the house when I am down the street.

it'll be louder than stock but have that hollow tinny flowmaster sound. i perfer packed mufflers like magnaflow or dynomax ultraflos on the 300.

Optikal. Doesn't the packing degrade over time?

So either magnaflow or dynomax ultraflos would give me the volume I want?

Loud enough to hear it well, but quiet enough for home and neighborhood. I guess one that is quiet but really barks when you mat the pedal would be best.

Are there various models of Magnaflows?

From your description of what you want it isn't a Flowmaster. My wife can't hear me down the street, she can hear me down the road. As in she can hear when I pull away from the stop sign just over 1/2 mile from the house while she's watching TV. I added a tailpipe last year and it helped, but it is still way louder than it needs to be. Granted, I have an offroad y-pipe and headers, but it's still damn loud.

What flowmaster do you have? I know the 70 series is their quietest and should not be too loud for me, but may be too quiet. I want quiet to pull away from house, but if she hears me floor it that is different.

Ya know, I don't remember what series it is. Either a 40 or 50. I know it's a two chamber and she can hear it that far away just driving like a normal person.

Two Chamber is a 40. The 50 is a three chamber. I think Flowmaster is the way to go, but which one? The 50 Delta surely won't be too quiet, but the 50 SUV might not be loud enough. FM tech person tells me the Ford 300 is pretty quiet anyway. Then it's different on each vehicle.

AFAIK the packing is stainless steel wool and wont degrade. i had a flowmaster delta flow 40 series and ran several tail pipe styles and each one droned inside the cab. while the idle sounded ok, the power band didnt sound very nice.

2 clips of when i had my magnaflow installed with dual turndowns. with regular tailpipes it would sound a little smoother.

geez cut the bull s**t... cut it off after the cats... loud as a v8 with 40 series flows... sounds better though. weld on a tailpipe.. NO DUALS.. its too much flow for a 6.. they need a little back pressure

Here is my current exhaust sound. I am wondering if maybe what I have sounds good enough. Would hate to spend a hundred bucks and make it sound worse.

Optikal. Your truck sounds great. That's about as good as these sixes likely will sound. Anything sounding better than that has to be a V8.

Maybe if I eliminate the long tailpipe and just let it dump out the back of the muffler. I don't worry about CO because it's under the bed not the cab.

heh, ur truck will drone inside the cab. anything with a dumped exhaust will from my experince.

thanx tall paul, i took all that off for headers, high flow cat and straight pipe before the rear tire with a honkin tip (4 x 20) LOL. total opposite of what it was and will wake the dead.
