Paying for exhaust stud removal & replacement?

Well I had 3 exhaust studs broke on the top row on the drivers side. I cant even see the bottom, so who knows down there how many are broken. Passenger side has 2 on top broken. I pulled the wheel and plastic liner, and doesnt look like this is something I wanna tackle myself.

Anyone have an idea how much someone would charge to take off the manifolds and studs, and replace it with stainless steel headers and bolts? I would buy the studs and headers seperately, just wanna know what labor costs should be around, just a guess?

Found a set of 304 stainless steal headers, that come with metal gaskets and stainless steal studs, for 215$ shipped... wonder if they would be an improvement over stock?

The job is more time consuming than anything. Not really hard to do.
But if you're not comfortable then a shop will do it.

I have seen the $ run all over the place on different posts here.

Best thing to do,shop around, get a couple estimates from reputable repair shops.

I would bet the $ would be very different depending on your location as well.

If you're gonna have the manifolds off anyway, headers and ss bolts wouldn't hurt a thing.

edit: where are you located, alot of people on here help other members. (alot)

I'm located in 56649, International Falls, Minnesota... about a mile from the Canadian border. If someone wanted to help me do this even, I would be up for a little bit of traveling, and can pay you. I have every weekend off, and can take days off with PTO also, I really wanna get this fixed, it sounds horrible.

Heres the headers I'm interested in, has to be better then stock manifolds right?

I've heard some people say some of the cheap ebay headers were suprisingly well made and sounded good, I dont feel like spending 600$ on something that looks pretty much identicle, just has a name-brand stamp. Reason I like this cheap 200$ ebay setup, comes with studs, comes with the gasket, and comes with headers, and I can sell my stock manifold for what I'm paying for this probably.

Like 12ozd said, there are a lot of threads about headers. Off the top of my head on the e-bay's, most were satisfied with them but had to notch the frame to get them to fit. Krewat did a thread on his install.

The passenger side exhaust manifold leaks on my '05 5.4. I was quoted $850 to remove the exhaust manifold and replace the gasket. If the head needs to be removed so broken studs can be extracted I was told it could be double that. Too much for my blood.

That sounds awful high !!

I'll do them all day long for $850.

Look around, you'll get a better price.(or do it yourself)

Shouldn't require head removal.(even for broken studs)
