Towing With or Without Overdrive?

When towing my travel trailer should I be in overdrive? I have a 30BHDS Jay Flight with a dry weight of 7200. My truck is a 250 crew, V10, 4wd, if that helps.

The 1/2 ton Dodge I got rid of had a "tow/haul" mode. That made it easy you just put in in tow/haul and go. The tranny would go into overdrive when on flat ground at interstate speeds.

I tow with overdrive until the tranny starts to hunt for a gear, then i hit the od/off button till i smooth out at a steady speed then back on again.

Jason has you covered.

As long as it's not hunting (shifting in and out) in overdrive, you can safely tow in OD.

Tow in the tallest gear that the torque converter will stay locked. The torque converter is the primary heat generator in the transmission.

I, like Jason, tow in OD until trans hunts, then hit OD button to turn it off and always keep an eye on trans temp gauge. My TT is about the same as yours, weight wise.

Same for me. Use OD until it shifts down a lot. My TT about the same weight.
