Sometimes taking it to a dealer is worth it. I work for international and do this everyday. Its also not that you cant do that work at all though but more of a matter that the cost of the stuff dealers have such as a EST is just not worth guys like us buying. Its SOOOOOOO much easier when you have the right tools. I mean we all can try hard to help ya out but its best when your right there and have your nice computer showing you all the values. Truth is though if we all could afford the tools we wouldnt have to EVER take or stuff to dealers.

I think thats my next step!! After 5 days of rain, and a boating injury, I finally was able to get the right side VC off. Started unplugging injectors while it was running...2-3-4 all make a noticable differance when unplugged, #1 (just replaced last week) hardly makes any difference at all??
There is a slight miss, but you really have to be listening??? The other 7 make a very noticeable miss.
Also.....After letting it idle for 10 mins or so, I pulled the fuel filter to find the fuel bowl was only 1/3 full.
One more thing....I have read in some threads that you can hear the fuel pump cycle with the engine off? My pump is completely silent. I s that the sign of a weak pump? I thought they made more noise when they start to go bad.

If you turn the key on and the pump doesn't run for a short bit, then it is likely giving up.

My experiences with the fuel pump on my truck, silence is bad. Try this....Take the hose off that connects up to the engine off the pump that is on the frame rail... Then turn the key on, don't start it, just turn the key on, see if any fuel comes out...If so, then it isn't your pump. Mine is noise...I kinda like it now..I know it is working...

Oh, once thing, if the pump is workin, then the fuel will come out quick so watch your eyes.....

Silence is not a good thing. It should make some noise. and getting no fuel is bad too. Hook the fuel psi gaiuge up to it. (spec is 60 to 70) Should be a Port on the side to check it. If none available do what stroked 99 said to do. If you have good fuel psi at key on then start it and see what it is at idle and then under full load. should stay right at 60 being that the pump is ecm controlled. If you have issues when it starts you could have a clogged or failing fuel return regulator vavle. Check her out and let us know. Sorry to here about your boating accident too hope you get better soon!

Better yet.... If you still have your fuel bowl then put a drain pan under the motor, below the drain hose for the fuel bowl, open the fuel bowl and then turn the key on. Take a look and see if it's bellowing fuel out.
I used this trick to drain my truck of gas when I gave my truck 30g of stuff to puke on.

The reason I say better yet is because if your fuel lines are anything like mine they don't come apart easy and this is a great way to avoid breaking anything.

I hate intermittent problems. They are the most difficult to troubleshoot.
Well what ever you find please keep us posted. We all learn here and like to keep this wealth of knowledge current.
Now I just wish the search engine on this site worked better.

Not yet, its running for the time being. Im going to drop the tank and clean the pickup before I do a fuel pump, as soon as I get it empty enough. I picked up two part time jobs and haven't had time to do anything. Im just keeping my fingers crossed untill I get the time.
