ok finally got my truck...99 crewcab longbed powerstroke 6spd 4x4...and want some opinions from people on my current up grades and future up grades...good and bad...
current upgrades:
stock straight piped exhaust
superchips flashpaq tuner
triple a-pillar guages
future upgrades:
5" straight piped exhaust
aem brute force or afe stage 2 cold air intake
leveling kit with 315/75/16
later on i plan to upgrade injectors and turbo impeller or whole turbo, so should i put on the 5" or just stick with 4"? in opinion which of my 2 choices for intakes are a better/worth my money buy? with the 315/75/16 should i upgrade to 4:10 gears (have 3:73 now)? thanks in advance for any and all info!
4" vs. 5" exhaust is personal choice, the 5" has a deeper sound to it IIRC. I love my 4" duals and couldn't be happier.
On the intakes- I don't hear as much about the AEM, the AFE has a really good reputation.
And I already warned you about the DP Tuner
A four inch would be fine, and take off the tuner you have on it now and get the DP Tuner. This will also help when you decide to upgrade injectors and turbo or getting a wicked wheel. Also with the DP it is recommended to upgrade the tranny with a trans-go or other VB upgrades. If you get a new turbo many people go with the GTP38R. and as for the intake many people are happy with the 6637 mod you can contact Clay for more on this. Along with the CCV mod. Im sure there is plenty more but thats all ive got off the top of my head.
thanks for all the info!.....which dp tuner should i look into model and such..i dont know anything about them so some helpful direction would be great....probly going to go with the 5" just cause i like noise, would like stacks but dont want to bore holes in my bed and loose that valuable space. the "6637" and "CCV"...iam new to the diesel family as well not good with english so i dont quite know the ling-o yet...sorry, ill catch up...what are they and were could i find them? thanks again!
If you can swing the extra dollars, I'd get the DP F6- upload new tunes yourself, try new tunes free, never need to pull the chip out. If you can't swing it, the F5 is still a very nice option.
6637 is a do it yourself (DIY) custom intake using a big **** paper filter that many of us run. All you need is a piece of 4" exhaust tubing about 4" long (or one with a 45*bend in it if you have an early 99). You should also get a Pete's cover for it- there is a good kit from Clay (Riffraff Diesel) with everything you need.
CCV is the crank case vent mod, which keeps oily vapors out of your intake. It's a simple mod, and Clay also has a kit for that. Some guys build a trap, some dont... I personally prefer to run without a trap.
great info...i have read most of the info on that thread and have a good idea what direction to go now.....now when i install my new exhaust iam thinking about running a tube off the downpipe to collect the "mist" from the CCV mod, and burn it up out the exhaust....sound good? excellent info! thanks for all the help!
i have read on further and sounds best to run the hose for the CCV further back on the truck...then connect to the exhaust? i read about running it into exhaust on that thread thats where iam going with this...instead of building a trap....let me know if my ideas are good or i need more planning...thanks
PaysonPSD....thanks for the info...i read the thread and now know what i want to do....i was going to replace the clutch anyway (it doesnt need it just as a satisfaction thing to me..knowing its new) and i will deffinatly install the kevlar bushing...my truck only has 147k on it so hopefully nothing is tore up...imput shaft wise.....thanks again!
