power steering pump question

In the process of replacing my leaky power steering pump. Whenever I go to order, they always ask if its metric or standard. What are they talking about?

For power steering leaks, try 1 tsp of brake fluid in the res. This works by slightly expanding the seals, thus plugging the leak. I've done this for years and it has never failed me!

The metric vs. standard refers to the pressure hose fitting, best I can tell. The pump itself should be the same, but I don't know that for sure. I was able to swap hose fittings between my 95 parts engine pump (compression fitting) and my 87 factory pump (o-ring fitting).

mine is leaking to the point where the seals are pretty much toasted, so no kind of additive will help. I have to top off the fluid about every 100 miles!

I recently re-sealed my power steering pump with a kit from NAPA. No more leaks....well at least not from the pump or reservoir
