jan '03 Hot Rod hi-po 390 build up

I have a 75 F250 highboy with a np435,np405,4.10's dana 61 rear,44 in front,p/s, p/b,a/c.I have read the article in the Jan 03 issue of hot rod on the 390 fe build up and have decided that was a good place to start to overhaul my plant but I have a few questions.I have read the posts here, consulted a few engine builders,am in the process of reading a few books and so on.I am a NYC firefighter but,I am a heavy truck mechanic by trade.I have decided to use Philidelphia engines for the machine work(referred by Perogie enterprises).
I am going to balance, blueprint the plant.I have an edelbrock performer manifold, crane hydraulic roller cam(p/n349521),harland sharp roller rockers(1.76 ratio)and a set of doug thorley fenderwell headers that i'm going to bolt to cherry bomb 35"x2 1/2" mufflers.and am planning to go to 10.0:1 compression.I want low end torque, but when i step on it on the highway I want it to go.I want it to be streetable, able to sit in heavy traffic for extended periods, but have a little rumble.Few questions,I am planning on going with the edelbrock perfromer heads, any suggestions on the cc size or valve sizes? What cfm carb(650 or 750),should I put a block between the carb/intake to improve torque, what kind of grind on the cam(222/228 duration @.050,.584/604 lift,110 degree LSA).I have never built a perfromance engine before so I don't have a baseline to go off of but,I have done alot of reading and asking questions.Any suggestions, tips, tricks and so on would be greatly appreciated.thanks

sounds like that should be pretty good, but i like the performer rpm intake. supposed to be the best intake available for these. the performer isn't supposed to be any better than factory except like 75lbs lighter.

Sounds like a solid plan. It's similar to mine which has some *****, even with factory iron heads. Chamber cc size will be dictated by the desired compression ratio, which you stated as 10:1, and the pistons you plan to run. To achieve this ratio with flat top slugs you need about a 72 cc chamber and I wouldn't go any higher tha 10:1 for a dependable street motor. The guys on the FE forum might be a big help to you also.

If you really want to make some torque spend a few extra bucks on a Scat or Eagle stroker crank. You'll bump up the cubes and enjoy the torque benefit of a long stroke with a cast steel crank.

Eagle doesn't make Cranks for a Ford FE, they make Rods, but not cranks.
