Ok just got back from Parts Store and I'm getting a few different stories and prices!!
So I'm not sure which is the 1 I need as I have not pulled the existing 1 out yet.
1 is priced at $120.00 and the other at 350.00 a huge difference.
Can someone tell by my V.I.N. # which 1 I need?
I was told that my truck was MFG'd for only 1 month using these parts so I'm litle confused.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I am no expert but are you sure the parts store is not mixing your truck up with a power stroke?
When you do get a pump make sure you take carefull note of which bolt goes where as you take them out.
Hmm.. well I did say F250 Turbo Diesel to both stores but 1 did ask whether it was Direct or Indirect which mine is.
Does the P/S have a Turbo Diesel in that same year??
Was thinking as well.. will I get away with just removing the fan shroud then the belt and pully??
There should be a big nut on the fan clutch, This is left hand threads remove the nut before you remove the belts is a lot easier then remove the pully.
I thought yours was the same pump as all idi's. The one for my 6.9 was either 58 or 68 dollars at napa in december.
I must not have changed the water pump on one with a serpentine belt or I would remember that. George should know he just put a 6.9 in a 94 and I know he kept the serpentine belt.
All fan clutch nuts are LHT, the Serpentine belt/Fan Clutch is jsut as much a PITA as the V Belts. Your going to need a special wrench set to get the nut off.
FWIW, the Water Pump design was changed. In 88/89?? IF You get a new casting, the bolts are all the same. If You get an new casting, the upper bolt bosses are longer and You don't need to worry about the bolts hitting the IP gear. The Old casting requires the proper bolts in the upper mounting holes, or they will hit the IP gear. See Pic Link Below.
My truck has a serpentine belt..I found which pully was the Tenisioner.
I removed the 4 bolts holding the fan to the Pump.
Turned out to be the $103.00 pump, the 1 they were quoting me on was for P/S.
Can't remove the fan clutch though...need them Special tools ..
I did mine last week and this my first experience with a clutch fan, I used a large channel lock to remove the fan, although it was after it took out the h2o pump with the fan attached (big mistake) had to pull the alternator and the fan shroud along with the pump and fan, BIG PITA. do all you can to get the clutch fan off prior to removing the pump.
-I think the clutch fan is a left hand thread, meaning its left to tighten and right to loosen. I'm looking for a second opinion on this.....
