Water pump...
Had to fab a tool to hold the pulley still, belts not sufficient to hold steady. cut metal to cover 2 bolts on pulley, with 'handle' about 6 inches long that an iron pipe slips on. removed 2 bolts and washers, installed tool with washers under for spacing. took 2 guys to break that fan free but it worked alright. Added extender pipe to the fan wrench as well for leverage. Tool handles about a yard long.
Most time (hours) spend cleaning off the old gasket. Holy smokes that was really baked on there! most time spent with razor blades, and a little wire wheel on drill action to round out the adventure.
Assembled with provided gasket, plus small RTV beads on both sides of it. Barely snugged bolts, to the point RTV was squeezing out. Set for 2 hours, then tightened down. used light duty (red?) thread locking to fan nut. Added coolant and all is well.

Thanks for the info here, FTE always a great resource!
