In my Service Manual it shows both wrenches in behind the Fan to remove it from the Pulley as an Assembly meaning you take the Fan Clutch off with the Fan...but where they show the wrenches theres only 1 nut and they show the other wrench on the shaft to the Pulley but its rounded , noway to put a wrench.
Now on the Clutch Fan itself theres a funny type nut which definitly requires a special tool.
Should I remove it 1st or do as the Manual says and remove it and the Fan at same time?

There is no reason to remove the fan from the fanclutch.
It is much easier to do if your first step is removing the fan clutch BEFORE you loosen the belts. Most fan shrouds have a caution left hand thread on them, theere are special tools for this but I have changed several of them without them sometimes have used channel locks, but I also used a torch and cut out a wrench out of 1/4 in steel that worked well. The last one I had to do I was on the road and didn't have my homeade wrench used channel locks and changed it in a wallmart parking lot.

Locktite on the fan clutch threads is not uncommon.

You may need some heat on the nut if someone used red Locktite.

One wrench goes on the big nut, the other grabs the heads of the fan bolts to keep the pulley from turning.

Stupid fan clutch nut. I've still got a nasty scar from the last time I removed one.

Hi sorry for the absence but we've had rain and of course I didn't park it in the shop thinking it wasn't a big job

Anyway I have tried removing the fan to no avail I might add.
As I said in a previous post my shop manual says it comes off as 1 assembly but I'm wondering if the Clutch Fan should be removed 1st ?!?!

Thanks for the input

Is this the right place for the Channel Pliers??

You need to turn the nut that you have labled wrench in the second picture. The bolts need to be reinstalled to keep the pully-water pump from turning. The nut is left hand thread. I made a wrench from some scrap 1/4 inch metal to fit the nut, and hit it with a hammer to break it loose. When I did this job, the belt held the pully from turning. Hope this helps. Tom

Put some cardboard in between fan and radiator just in case. Nut on clutch is 1 7/8" and is torqued to 113 ftlbs, it is lefthand thread. The 83mm crowfoot wrench goes on the four bolts you removed from the pulley. The wrenches can be borrowed from Oreillys (these are heavier) or Autozone (I bent these doing mine last week). When you add the breaker bars to these wrenches you have quite a balancing act to contend with.
There is a bolt head below the alternator on the block on my 7.3 that I was able to use to hold the 1 7/8 in place while I wrestled the 83mm around. Good Luck. Hope this helped. Remember righty loosy lefty tighty.

Do what you can do to get the most wrap of the belt around the pulley.

Take it off something else to get more wrap, you can use a bar, block of wood etc... to hold the belt in tension. If ya got a assistant that could help, they can hold a bar applying tension to the belt.

Never done this on an IDI, but I have done it many hundreds of times on various other things.

Shock is your friend when breaking bolts and things loose.

[edit]
Personally, I would pull the radiator just for safety, one slip = Instant mood change!

-Enjoy

WIth as much trouble as you are having, I would go and find the right tool to remove the fan hub and get the water pump changed.

I'm back
Ok I went and borrowed the Clutch Fan Removal set from my Canadian Tire Store through their Borrow-A-Tool program.
The 1 tool worked on the Pulley but the other tool in the kit did not fit the nut.
I managed to use an Adustable Wrench with an Extention for leverage and with a piece of 1/8th MDF board covering the Radiator I removed the Fan/Clutch. The shroud was then lifted out with the fan assembly.

I'm now going to mark the bolt holes on the new Water Pump and I will post back as I go along.
Thanks for the help.

Ok pumps off with no problem
Right above the pump there is a Plate...I assumed it was the Thermastat but I removed it and looks like thats not it at all,was no thermastat ,just a Black shaft with a few bolts on it.
Anyway I guess my question is..where is the Thermastat??

You removed the access plate for the injector pump to gear mounting bolts.

The thermostat is under the housing where the upper radiator hose goes into the engine block.
