There's no reason to prime [or white] a whole truck other than to hide something.
No offense but theres no reason to think that the whole world is out to get you. There could be several reasons to prime a truck. Maybe the PO couldn't afford the paint or had some primer laying around that needed to be used. Maybe they just liked the primer look. To say that every truck that is primed has something to hide really is silly. my .02
I'll get that pic out today after work. I thought it was a 351m because the PO said so I could definitely be wrong.
As you can tell I'm very new at this but I do enjoy it and there is no way I could have gotten as far as I have without help from the group.
As far as the primer I'm not sure why he painted it that way. He might have not liked the color but it's dark Jade ( I think that's the name ) and for me that's one of my favorite colors for trucks of this age. That flat primer color is popular in this area especially for mud trucks. Looking at the body I don't think it's been changed around but I could be wrong as I don't have the experience to tell.
Again thanks for all the help and hopefully I'll get a carb at the J/Y and have a lot more questions but if not it'll be getting the Holley.
Well it's definitely a 76 from the vin on the door and above the striker. What made you believe it was a 78/79?
Below are links to pics of the engine. So what do you guys think it is?

Looks like a FE to me. Sure isn't a 351M engine. Probably a 360. How many valve cover bolts does it have?
Steering column & cover is from a 1978/79. So is the steering wheel. They don't interchange.
