My '04 has about 155K on it. I bought it used. Decided to change the fuel filters. After reading about the 6mm Allen Head HFCM drain plug stripping out.. I figured I'd find it really tight and hard to turn. Found it was VERY loose. After changing the filter, I went to put the plug back in and, you guessed it, it's stripped. The threads on the plug look OK so I'm guessing the housing itself is stripped.
Other than changing out that entire housing, is there a common fix for this? Maybe a plug that has a longer threaded section so I can get into hopfully a few good threads deeper in?
Here is a fix if it was the plug
go to teck folder and look on second page for the problem. For some reason the cut and paste isn't working properly and giving another web site.

Problem is, someone before me replaced the brass drain plug with the steel plug. Apparently they overtightened it and took out the threads in the filter housing. I'll get one of the new style brass plugs and see if it goes in deepr to grab some good threads. It's the little surprises like these that makes buying a used vehicle 'interesting'..
The o-ring also provides enough resistance that it acts as a locking device and will prevent the plug from loosening. As stated above, just snug it down.
Just a quick update.... as suggested, I installed one of these "upgraded' HFCM plugs.. Ford HFCM (Horizontal Fuel Conditioning Module) drain plug upgrade Threads looked identical to the steel plug that was in the HFCM, but for some reason, the new one went int snug. So, the $15 fix took car of it.
