I heard your supposed to add a radiator additive to the antifreeze on a diesel to keep from getting pin holes in the cylinders, I did add an additive but how often are you supposed to add this,
The local International dealer sells the single pack test strips. They are only good for one year so just buy a few at a time.
The International ones are better since they test both of the additives, and if one is being used up faster you can adjust using the chart. Some of the ones that auto parts stores carry only test for one of the two additives.
Well water is a big no-no IMO. It's worse that tap water. I used to use distilled water until I found out about de-ionized water. Most 50/50 coolant come with it.

Jim that is a new one on me. what is the diff. between the two and where do you get it. We use distilled because it has no minerals which I assume includes iron which helps stop electrolesis. also we use napa KOOL additive and water filters with conditioner in filters. I am always interested in new ideas so please share more info. if you can. thanks.
I also use deionized water in my cooling system. I purchase it by the gallon (my containers) I think I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $.50 a gallon from an aquarium store.
