All I can get from the climate control on my 03 SD F250 7.3 is defrost air no matter what is selected with the controls.
The little pump on the inside of the passenger fenderwell seems to work fine. What else is there to check and how is it done?
BTW, installed a FlexaLite 278 on it this weekend. Fairly straightforward.
Some clearance issues on the vertical line from the overflow tank that I fixed by padding the shroud where it rubbed.
Will post any mileage improvements here. Engine does seem to "spin-up" a little faster.
Most likely a leak in your ESOF (Auto 4wd) system. I'm assuming your vac pump does not run continuously? Follow you vac lines from the canister to the vac solenoid on the fender well. Plug the vac line going to the solenoid and see if the climate controls work. If so, then you've isolated it to the solenoid and hubs/lines. That will start a whole other thread.... Do some searches on things like ESOF, or hub, leaks and you'll find lots of info.
Checked all the lines I could find and made sure they were on.
Started engine and put it into 4wd and then back to 2wd and air started coming out of the dash vents as selected. The climate control now works as advertised so it was some sort of vacuum issue.
Thanks to all that replied. Will investigate further when it is daylight
This happened to me last fall one morning. I turned the key on and i heard the pump running and running. Popped the hood and gave the pump a smack down. No luck. I stuck my finger on the the little Barb (that looks like were you would put a hose on). Felt a little air pressure and it the pump stopped. Haven't had a problem sense. Weird. Wonder if there is a check ball/valve that didn't seal or something. I just chalked it up to a little piece of crude or something preventing vacuum. Can't explain it. It just worked for me and been fine. I thought i would be working on it soon. But i haven't had to. I will have to look for a diagram of the inner workings of the pumps. Would be nice to have plus i fear that mine will have to come apart someday.
I had the solenoid valve on the fender fail such that the pump ran all the time. Stange as the selonoid was only 6 mo old... You need to start isolating parts of the vac system. I'd start by plugging the line that goes to the solenoid thus isolating the climate ctrl side of the system.
To all that replied-
The problem was the vacuum solenoid (7C3Z-9H465-A) as Mr5X5 suggested. I changed this out and all functions returned to normal. Part runs about $60 at the dealer and is easy to switch out. It's located just in front of the vacuum reservoir on the inner passenger side fender well.
As for the Flexalite fan I put in, so far I have picked up 2mpg over the last 400 miles and will continue to record and report. Engine has maintained same temp reading on the guage.
This is a very helpful site and thanks to all that answered.....
