I have a 10.25" Sterling rear and have been offered a posi(trac-lock i think for ford) for $150. The guy bought it thinking he had an open diff but his clutches were the only bad part. Is this a reasonable price for this and does it require changing of the carrier to install it?
The LS unit is a whole new carrier, and needs to replace the open diff carrier. In my opinion, 150 is a tad high. The 10.25's might be worth more than an 8.8, but I bought a ford traction lok LS from ebay for my 8.8 at $50 bucks. I see most around 50-75 bucks. The rebuild kit with new clutchs and parts, cost me 75 to make it like new. It should have all the spyder and side gears, S-spring, Pin, everything included for that price. For $50 bucks mine came complete, even with an excitor ring (for the speedo and ABS), ready to be installed, minus a new set of clutches. Going in next week.
By the way, just so you know (no big deal) posi is a chevy term, limited slip (LS) is a ford term.
