Hey guys, Its been a while since Ive been on. Sold my f250 and bought a 2000 excursion with the 7.3. My question is that my friend has a 2003 f350 7.3, he is selling the truck and I was going to buy his f5 tuner. I recently saw on DP's website that they are no longer offering f5 upgrades. Can DP reprogram the tuner for my truck, is it needed? Or should I save my money? Thanks for the input guys!
Steve
the PCM codes are different for the Ex's so you will need to have it reprogrammed. I had Bill at PHP do mine and what he recommended was to run the Best factory programming for that PCM.. I had EBM3 but now running EBM1 which has better shift strategies like the PMT1 PCM If you ask Jody he will be able to do the same thing with the F5 tunes.... Now all my tunes are based off of the EBM 1 programming
How much of a jump in power between the 80 econ and 120 race?
40 HP, nominally.
Seriously, I have the 80 and 120 tunes and I find that the biggest difference in the 120 tune is that it downshifts quicker, and sends more unburnt fuel out the tailpipe in the form of black smoke. That said, it is slightly more powerful, according to the seat of my pants.
HAHAH Nice. Well I live in the city and Im used to getting the eye rolls and head shakes from the yuppies in their priuses, so black smoke would just be iceing on my cake.
The 80 econ is so fast and blows so much smoke, I rarely use the 120. I haven't put on the Overboost Annihilator or upgraded the turbo exhaust housing or done all the fuel mods... then we'll see about the 120race !!!
I just sent them an email asking about the F6 and whether you need the PCM number and all that 'cuz that's a real pain trying to get to the cable under the brake stuff and the fuse box that's right over it... Waiting for a reply now..
Gonna buy that and some gauges with my retirement bonus..

yup, same here. 80E is PLENTY of power to get up to speed, but the 120R is kinda cool if you want to blow some smoke and pass the granny driver in front of you.
But yea the shifts are faster/sooner with the 120R, the 80E is more usable day to day.
