solenoid on top of engine by fuel filter????

Hi Guys, I was checking things over under the hood and noticed a solenoid down by the HPOP, the reason I noticed it is because the magnet spacer and nut had come off. I found the parts laying in the manifold valley and reinstalled.
I was just wondering what this solenoids function is....

It's either the glow plug relay or the intake air heater relay.

Thanks but its not a relay, I know where they are. This is a solenoid valve, it looks like it is attached to the high pressure oil pump....

Thats the IPR.. Screw it back together. The copper nut goes on last and holds it in place.

IPR = Injection pressure regulator. Its function is to tell your HPOP how much ICP (Injection control pressure) the PCM is commanding. Basically it fires your injectors.

The one closer to the firewall is the glowplug relay. The other is for the intake air heater.

Was the rig running ok like this? Sounds like the solenoid stayed in place - that's pretty amazing.

A picture of the IPR in place and the link I pulled it from below:

EDIT: I see this is an old post - oops
