1994 7.3 stroker injector ticking or ??

I wrote on this subject once before regarding the a ticking. I changed the HPOP an IPR prior to this ticking which started after a 50 mile trip sounded like an lifter tick goes up an down with the rpm's an is consistant , I pulled the valve covers to check the injectors an all were working like they should be an I pulled the wire off each one to see if it changed an thing an it died down a little when power was taken away . had oil coming out of each one . my question is how do you tell for sure which is about to fail an would the truck leave you stranded on a long trip if you loose 1 injector ? .being a 1994 you can't read pressures on a scanner . so I am hoping some one of you PSD guru's my help the truck has 150 k on it as well what else would make the noise ??

Could very well be is the noise coming from all injectors or just one or two? I think that if you get a proper scanner on it that can do buzz test and cylinder contribution test it may help to find a weak injector.

Also you can try a mechanics stethoscope to find exactly where the noise is coming from just a thought

????

sounds like just 1 injector ? if I was to drive it like that on a long trip an the injector went out would it strand me ? or continue to run jus with lack of power ? also would it hurt the engine with one injector down if I drove it back home ?

If it's an injector, you won't get stranded. It might run like crap though.
I have a noisy injector that sounds like a rod knock when cold an then simmers down to a loud tick like a lifter out of adjustment. Been like that for over a year.
If it's in the valve train it may leave you stranded with catastrophic engine damage.

Hey jim I had the covers off yesterday an all the push rods looked good had it running with them off an looked like at the injectors an all had oil coming out of that dump spout . this ticking you don't really hear it when you first fire it it's when you drive down the road an an back out of it like on the down shift an then tick tick tick like a lifter . this all started right after the HPOP in stall . went on a short run an on the return getting off the exit ramp an down shifting an tick tick GRRRRR woud you think it could be valve train ? I have put a 100 miles on it since it started ticking an it's goting no loader ? the real kick in the *** is I have got it sold this friday ..

The new HPOP is sending higher pressures so the injectors would be my first guess. They can tick/knock and still spit out oil. You can pin-point the offending injector with the v-covers off and a mechanics stethoscope. If you pull the v-covers again, torque the rockers down just for good measure. I do that every time they come off.

Try adding a some lubricity to the fuel and oil....I've used 2 cycle oil with some success.
There are many options for this available at big rig shops or fuel stops. Use what the big rigs use is usually a safe bet.

added some 2cycle an a good injector cleaner an lubircator an no change . I have put about 200 miles on the truck since it first started ticking an the noise hasn't gotten any louder or diffrent. it needs to do a 400 mile trip soon as It is sold so that will be the test . i told the new owner about it as honesty is the best ... we will see

Over the normal injector "Tapping", how can you tell from that?
For future reference, of course.

well I have had the truck for almost 2 years an know the sound of the motor . it's definetly a pronounced noise that you can't miss an follows the rpm range on the down shift like a lifter noise . an this all started after i put in the new HPOP . an others on this tread belive that it's an injector .

I was joking, sorry. I get comments a lot, "Hey your valves are knocking".
I knew there was difference, and wasn't suggesting anything.
