I have hird you dont need to change anything when you swap gears. I dont know how that can be true though...
when you change the gears the tone ring still revolves the same speed as it did before at a given speed, and so do the tires (if they remain the smae height). A ring and pinion swap only changes the amount of rotations the driveshaft will make in realtion to 1 rotation of the tire therfore it only affects the engine RPM at any given speed.
so basically the reason a gear swap does not require a speedo recalibration is because it does not change the speed of the vehicle just the engine RPM, which plays no part in the speedo
tire height on the other hand is pretty obvious and im pretty sure everyone knows that one
I have yet to get a new gear for my speedometer lol. Until then i'll just cruise under the speed limit. I think I have it figured out pretty closely. Going from 31's to 37's is a bit of a jump for the speedo lol.

you have a mechanical speedo im assuming?
think this would work for you? its for 92-96 VSS trucks but it might work on your year too?
ok well now i get 10.5 MPG LMAO...but when i recalibrated my speedo i checked the conversion constant just for ****s and it was quite a bit out for the 31's and i had a suspision that it as out by MAYBE 5 miles at 65 MPH...but it was still out, so now i can no longer trust that 13.25 MPG but i cant even trust the odometer LOL...but i knows its bang on now haha...gonna have to wait till i do the engine/tranny rebuild and body resto so i can turn the odometer back to 0 LOL...think thats fair? both diffs will be rebuild with new R&P and LS rear the engine gets rebuild and a new (rebuilt) ZF tranny....and the body resto...i think i am allowed to roll it back LOL
guy i work with has an 06 ish super duty diesel and he says he crys when it gets less than 22 MPG...he lives in town close to work...i told him mine gets 10.5MPG and i live 30+ KM from work...he couldnt even say anything to that lol just shook his head and walked away LOL
My last fill up was 11 mpg in my 94. But it was around 0* that whole tank full, needless to say, it ran a lot. From when I started it to go to work(25 miles) tell I shut it off at work averaged about an hour. Lol. I guess I'm not going to complain, cuz that's the best I was gettin with my old LTD... It say with u pushin thoses tires with stock gears your doin good.
It seems pretty good mileage. I can never tell my mileage with my F-350 cause the only time I drive it i'm filling up to go wheel it. And whenever that thing is on the throttle you see it drain the gas guage.
I just wish I got more bang for my buck. The 460 is cool, lots of power.. but i'd like MORE.

thats why im not ripping out my hair trying to squeeze a few more MPG out of it...i dont know where yet but i just discovered the ole 300 spawned another oil leak thats making a hell of a mess...and from all the sludge i found while doing the valve cover gasket and lifter cover gasket id say its about time for a rebuild...so im trying to get my **** in a line for a good rebuild/overall resto on it this summer...then itl have a fresh 300 and the ZF and 4.56s by then so i should be getting a good boost in MPG after that...

like i said man...get a sail...bigger the better...and nice black skull/crossbones flag would be great too! LOL then you get all kinds on MPG...providing its windy out LOL
But it rains more then it is windy. It would suck up 300 gallons of water and slow me down.
(It rains alot, and i'm thinking BIG sails.)
Go big or go home!
-That was like the third time I tried posting that. Not sure why it wouldn't go through.
but if youwere a smrt feller youd use something water proof...a.k.a. a TARP LOL...then the force of te rain bouncing off it wouldadd to your momentum LOL
lol...thats why you mount the pole for the sail on a big spring, then you go under a bridge it olds back and then pops up on the other side, like an antenna, itd probably throw your truck into a few flips though HAHA
