I have two 7.3's, the 94 has 167k and the 02 has 120k on, when should the vavle adjustment be checked and how indepth is it to do, what special tools are needed, have never done this before..Or do they even need adjusted..
I don't know about torquing them every time. Torque is a measure of bolt stretch. Stretch them too much and sometime they will stop stretching and just snap off. I think It's a good idea to check them at least once though at the rated torque and then at a bit lower setting to prevent from turning them more all the other times.
Injector hold down bolts are notoriously undertorqued from the factory on these trucks though. My last injector job actually had a couple of them falling out from that.
cool, thanks guys, next time i have the valve covers off i'll check the tq specs,
TJbeggs: where did you get those clear turn signal lens's at on your rig, i have been lookin for them for a while now, cant seem to find them anywhere.

on the rocker arm bolt torque I would rather a bolt break while I am checking its torque than when I am running down the road at 70 because it was loose took out the rocker arm, push rod and lifter when it let loose.
If the bolt it tight you should not turn the bolt at all before you torue wrench does its job. If its loose it needs to be tightened.
I agree with TJ, check the torque everytime your under the valve covers. Checking torque on a bolt will not cause it to over torque. If a bolt is torqued to say 55 lb/ft and then you come back a minute later with the torque wrench set at 55 lb/ft and check the bolt torque it will click at 55 lb/ft., if you recheck it a year later with it set at 55 lb/ft it will 1. click at 55 lb/ft because it is still tight or 2. it will tighten up some until it clicks at 55 lb/ft because it has become lose. No over torquing.
