When i bought my 81 bronco from a friend he said that the valves needed to be adjusted. After i got it to my dads house he said they don't need to be adjusted because i have hydraulic lifters. After looking in my repair manual it says i need a special lifter bleed-down tool. I have adjusted valves on a few rigs before but never had to use any special tool before, but i have never adjusted valves on an engind like this before. My question is do i need to adjust my valves? They aren't making enugh noise for me to notice or maybe i am just use to it and not realizing that they are making noise. If i do need to adjust them then will i have to buy a special tool or not?
I have a 351 Cleveland, running 2V Open Chamber heads (standard) haven't heard of adjusting Valves before. The Old Windsors you could (289) you may find that the Valve seats are worn. Fairly common in the older motors, I had my heads reco'd with hardened seats.
Thats my bit, dunno if the 351M had different setups or not.
351m's do NOT have adjustable lifters ..you just bolt the rockers down till there tight .. Now it could be that your rockers are worn and this will make them tick.. but for the most part the guy you bought it from don't know the 351m's very well .....
the only wat to adjust the valve train(upper is wit shims thicker thinner to move your pedistal slightly
sorry shazam i would like to stay in my place but its an 81 not stock 335 series teritory(unfortanatly) probally a wheezer
don't know may be able to swap a rail mount roller that might do something add a loud gear drive and ya got noise smooth strong as far as wheezers are conserned
