OK...here's another one. I finally have the passenger side apart (knuckle off, axle shaft out). I still need to get the bearings out of the hub...how do I get the needle bearing and the main bearing? Can I use a ball joint press? What is the part number for the main bearing? I checked with Ben at Powerstrokeshop.com and he said that there is no Ford replacement part for the main bearing; only the hub replacement @ $255.
Thanks,
Eric
the needle bearing pops right out the back with a bent screwdriver (be careful) as for the assy itself... the whole assy comes with needle bearings... other then that you cannot service the sealed assy kenny
I am replacing the ball joints on my 2003 F350 SD 4x4 and everything went very smoothly until removing the axle assembly. I have been pulling and tapping and prying to no avail. Any tricks or suggestions?? The whole axle assembly does just pull through the knuckle, correct?
I finally have the F350 back on the road! I replaced the ball joints, u-joints on axle shafts, new axle hub assemblies, new rotors, brakes and seals. Once all of that was completed, I found out that the steel brake line that extends from the front to the rear (line runs along the driver-side frame) was rusted out. So, I had to buy a double flare tool and 25' x 1/4" line and install that, then bleed the brakes. Finally, all is well now! I was able to complete the job just in time to plow the 12+" of snow we received here in CT Saturday night!
