Center seat out, console in COMPLETE!!

As promised some time ago, I promised to remove my center seat from my 40/20/40 2011 SD and install in it's stead a center console from a 2008-09-10 vintage. This is that chronicle for anyone interested in same.

Bought the critter from an Ebayer, who will be nameless due to a damage dispute. Add to that a rear mounting bracket # 8C3Z25045B34*BA
Rear bracket mounts under the seat legs and fits fine. Front will have to be a custom bracket but very easy to make. I have a picture showing the peice of metal I used, bent in a z shape. Regarding the rear bracket, you will want to be able to remove this, so I taped the bracket for a 3/8 bolt. This way you can remove 4 bolts and it comes out. I have more pics on my Snapfish site, just go here:

Looks great. I have the bench seat which I would not change since it gives you an extra passenger. It seems many prefer the console.

Looks great, just like my previous Excursion. What did you do with the A/C vents that came out the back of the 2011 console? How are you getting enoug air to the back seats?

With center seat, you get vents under front seats facing rearward only. Maybe the 2011 center console adds 2 more?

I have the 2 under the front seats and I have not had any complaints. Hell, all my other trucks didnt even have that!

So, no, I did no modification to the air vents, just mounting bracet, fit and I know have 2 power ports.

I would love to have the console but the bench is nice. This weekend my Dad and mom came down and we could all fit in my rig (Wife, 2 kids, both parents and myself). It is a nice feature for those rare times. The console looks a million times better though.

Just wish the arm rest in the 40/20/40 had as much storage as my 2000's did. Maybe I should look for a 2000 20 seat to replace mine. None of the under seat storage has much room either....

In that case, yes the 2011 console does add two more.
I have one floor vent under each front seat then two on the backside of the console.

Why didn't you find a console from a 2011? Is there a difference in the older models?

A couple reasons; the cost of a 2011 console new is over $1600 and it has to be bought peice by peice. This solution not only gave me 6 cup holders, but only cost $500. Next, I dont much care for the new design, makes the truck feel cramped and finally I tried searching hi and low for a junkyard unit and/or factory take-off and after 6 months I went this route and I couldn't be happier!

I like the open feel of the older consoles as well... that's one of the only things I don't like about the 2011 SuperDuties. All trucks really have gone that way, and I don't like it at all. Like you said, it makes it feel cramped, even though you're driving a huge truck.
