Angry Error Code P0743

I've been having trouble with my tranny lately. I'm getting an error code listed above which is supposed to be an electrical fault. I pulled the entire harness to the tranny and have not found any shorts running the wires individually. Also when driving it the OD light flashes on and off, when that happens when I slow down it shifts like someone kicked you in the butt. Turn the ignition off and restart and it shifts fine again for about 5 min. and then the whole process starts over again. I just ran the code reader on it again and got an additional code of P0755 shift solenoid but am not sure if thats because the harness isn't connected. It's a 97 F-250 with the 7.3 L pwr. stroke. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not able to afford to take it into a shop so its definitely a diy project. Thanks, Desertdog

It sounds like the solenoid block has a problem.

How hard is it to replace the solenoid. I wish to hell I could just take it in and have it done properly. I've read about a lock up switch that can be easily installed would this take care of the problem? I used to be a heavy equip mechanic yrs. ago but have no experience in automatic trannys, this is the first a t I've had in anything in yrs. I'm not even sure of the model of the tranny nor can I find any books on it. Thanks Doug

Hey Desertdogs.
I just got my tk out of the shop and it was doing the same thing. Shifting hard and the Over drive light was flashing. What is happening is the solenoid is locking the torque convertor up. All they done was changed the shift solenoid and changed fluid and filter. The shift solenoid was only 28.00. Now the tk runs like brand new hope this helps out. If you will take your vin # off the tk and call the ford dealership parts department they will tell you what trans you have in the tk. They were very helpful to me.

Thanks for the info

I figured out I have E040D, I'm changing out the solenoid pack and as long as I'm at it I figure I might as well change the shift lever sensor too. I'm just tired of messing with it. I found nothing wrong with the harness, checked it double checked it etc....Also I'm putting an external ground on the tranny and the converter lock up mod as well. I'm covering all the bases this time. I'm kind of crippled up so one day working on the truck leaves me down for 3 so I just want to get it done. I'd take it into the shop but V.A. disability doesn't pay enough to where I can even afford that. This is a great website, I love it. Hopefully I'll get a chance to help someone else out, its better to give than recieve. Thanks to all.
