I've added a aftermarket 4-pc sensor (audible only) to my '05 F150. I'd give you a p/n -make/model and approx. msrp that it should be listed as, but since I'm a dealer I don't know if the p/n will be for an "Installers-version" or not. You can try and find a local dist. in your area or maybe FTE has a sponsor (Supercrew Sound?).
Maker: SPAL
Model: Parking Sensor PS 4; Easy Series with Buzzer & 21mm bumper cutter.
P/n: 35600055 SPAL Automotive Srl (Italian based)
msrp: 134.99
They also make a 2-pc kit which would work just as well for the F-150; and also a audible and visual indicating system...
When I get my bumper painted you won't know the difference in the OEM or aftermarket versions- right now you see the flat grey color of my bumper and flat black of the sensor.
Rear sensors are awesome! I have an SCAB longbed, & it is a mother to look thru the mail slot rear window and park. We have the factory sensors on our F150, but I am thinking about putting after market sensors on my camry before my wife wrecks it backing up, waiting for it to go BEEP.
I took a reverse sensing system out a of wrecked 2004 explorer and installed it on my 2002 f150 when I had it. There was a control box in the back right corner of the explorer with a speaker, a switch on the dash, and the 4 sensors on the rear. I was able to clip the connectors so it made the install easier. I got the wiring diagram from a ford dealer and away I went. I installed the control box with speaker under the dash, switch in a nice location on the dash, and cut the sensors into the bumper. The sensor wires I had to add to make them go up to the dash but just matched up colors. The switch wires went to the control box and again just match up colors. Then 12 volt pos and neg and it worked right up until the day I traded it in. Make sure if you get a used system to take note of the year so you can get the proper wiring diagram. There were also some data wires to the main computer of the truck but I didn't hook any of them up.
If you can't find a good OEM system... I was in a shop today that offered aftermarket reverse sensor kits, so they are out there, and may be a cheaper option.
Walmart sells a good wireless camera for about $99. The camera mounts to your top two license plate screws and attaches electrically to one of your backup bulbs. The monitor mounts on the dash and plugs into the accesory power outlet. It works well.
I had both installed after backing into a small post. The total for the camera and the backup sensors was $500 installed aftermarket. I tried getting them from the dealer, they wanted almost $2000 for the parts for both.
How hard was it to run the cables and where did you mount the control box and speaker? Is it an anoying buzz or a beeper like the stock system?
