Need to remove the spring from the front strut on my 05 F150 4wd. Was wondering if I need the spring compression tool to do so?
OR, can I use the weight of the truck to compress the spring (while the whole assembly is still installed), remove the center strut bolt, lower the jack then remove the 3 upper assembly bolts from the frame?
I have dun it that way in the past with smaller passanger cars w/o any issues. Never tried it on a full size truck before...
I have seen at least one guy say he did his truck that way when he added a leveling kit that required spring removal. I don't know why it wouldn't work if you're careful and know what you're doing.

Thanks for the reply... Rented the spring compression tool (free from AutoZone) just in case...
