I'll use the new Motherboard opportunity to buy the discounted Office Suite OEM from MS.

I'll run a small HD in the PC for operating systems & applications, and continue to use my 750Gig USB as the drive for all my files.

Easier to lock away the USB drive than the entire PC.

I've been going to them over the years.

Likely I'll have them build it for me.

I saved a lot of junk from the old PC's I trashed, maybe some of the power supplies and boards are still serviceable.

Keep my costs down.

Older power supplies were usually around 250 or 300 watt.. Today a 550 to 750 watt is common..

Don:

I wanted to maximize graphics processing power.

Not so much running additional monitors.

Yea my old power supply was about 300 watts and when I bought it back in the mid 1990s the guy asked why would I want such a big one.

I said so I would not have to buy a larger one for a long time.

You can run 2 monitors from 1 video card..

Unless you are doing gaming or cad drawing you don't need that much video power and more potential for problems..

Dave if your running something like crossfire or sli I would run at least a 700 watt power supply. I personally run a 1000+ watt power supply in my desktop. I really have to rebuild that thing.

Don:

I always look toward the future, going hi-end now allows me to degrade to mediocre over time before I'm obsolete again.

At the moment the only gaming I do is Second Life

I know I have fried a 500 watt power supply when I upgraded a video card in my first desktop. Then again I was also running 4 optical drives, 2 hard drives as well as two case fans, the cpu coller, and then the new card was the final straw.

1000+ watt

I'll need a dedicated outlet for that PC, I see that the PC is up there with the Air-Conditioner and Microwave.

Hmmm, I could duct the exhaust air from the PC to the Clothes Dryer and save on energy

Good thing I work the evening shift and I am only on the computer after midnight, guess I'll have to go for off peak metering.

True Dave. Actually it doesnt run to warm right now considering that I need to replace a few things in it. Namely the board, video cards, and processor. I had it plugged into a ups to help with any sudden voltage demands it needed. But with it not running I dont have it plugged in.

Do computers come with amp meters / power meters like our trucks do, and like the old Stereos had Db meters.

That way I can watch my A$$ knowing my wife will see the electric bill before I do.

I dont think they do Dave. this is the power supply I currently have it is 1200 watts.
My home theatre system is over that by thirty watts if you include the 230 watt amp for the 10 inch subwoofer.

Marvelous the house lights dim as you get into the thick of the game.

Talk about realism

Never gave it thought that a PC could surge such power
