LOL.... Yes when we were young, we were all Superman. Who needed brakes? I don't know about you, but as I got old, I found a few dents in my cape.
Back in the 50's we could get away with a lot of dumb stuff without hurting anyone. Now, if you breath, you are bothering someone.
Back to talking about racing....
Stopping is good. Hitting the fence at the end of the drag strip is bad.
Back in 89 I was getting close to the fence even at 125 mph through the traps. I should be at 130-140 now, and would hit the fence for sure if I did not improve the brakes. Our 240ZV8 ran the Silver State race at an average of 161 mph with a top speed of 185, and even with the high dollar braking system I have on it, it was not happy with panic stops at over 150 mph.
I almost ran over a wounded Corvette who was running about 110 mph that I ran up on around a corner. The pucker factor was very high. I missed him, and all was fine, but the brakes and fast maneuvering saved the day.

LMAO...I hear ya Lloyd....Back then we were running NO brakes up front and Shoe barkes in the back with a Big Dodge rearend..and NO Chute !! A lever for the rear brakes...and only a 6 point cage...

I remeber knocking on 10,000's RPM's Doors, and Summit, and Speed shops, and a few of the rest with Vid of our car in Black Primer , Looking for sponsors!! And NO one would give me the time of day!!

So Ray and I sitting in My Camper in the pits of OCIR...Decided we were gonna Race on our pace..Phuque everone else... Then when we started spanking there azz's in the class's they had cars in..then they came around....We had already set a few A/EA Altered records...and the big guys were dropping off parts at our shop!!

Of Course Ray and I being Hard headed and Privatier's..Didnt want any part of them then.. With Ray being a GREAT Fab man and Head porter thats were the HP came in at..Oh And also being a Great Painter too!!! I think Ray still owns H&M performance in San Pedro SoCal... But I think Ray Jr. has now takin Pops spot !!

But those were the days...I had to re-learn all over again!!! Nothing was like it use to be..and with the Fords !! Its Changing daily !!!!
