I saw a cool Tug a war the other day. I was at a car wash getting my new and also my first truck washed. when a guy came and sat beside me and ask me if that blue F-150 was mine and I told him It sure was, and that I was Mighty proud of it he pointed his truck out to me and 82 F-150 Rusted warn a genreally messed up he told me it was an automatic 4.9 (300) CI powerd Truck. About this time a guy wereing a leather jacket came in and noticed that there was more fords out being washed the there was chevys so he made a rant about it. And then began bragging about his truck a pristine 1996 Chevy 1500 (Vortec) 350 it had all the bells and wistles also a Z71 Offroad Package. He began irritating me and my commrad ford man about our trucks he was telling us about how much faster and stronger his truck was we kind of tuned him out until he said flat out that FORDS SUCK!!!!! Thats when me and this other guy let him have it we got all over him and even drew a croud around us when he fineley asked me to drag race him and I turned him down becus my truck only has 41,000 miles and its a 1990 model (Im Taking very good care of it) he said it was becus I was scard and new he would win............ Well he migh have he has a 350 (VORTEC) me......... a 302 Windsor still not a bad engin but he had a CI advantage on me but the other guy that was with me said he would play him in tug of war The Chevy man was overjoyd knowing he was going to win an I6 VS V8 Shouldent be a compition................. Wrong anywase thay both went around back in there trucks then I pulled mine back there parked and wacthed the hooked up a tow strap the chevy guy had. Thay pulled the slack out of it. Another on looker counted them down 3.....2.....1.....GO!!!!!!!!! Both trucks roard to life as thay both Clawd at the ground for traction when finaly the chevy broke loose and began smoking it tires the ford broke a few seconds after as thay both smoked there tires until the trucks could not be seen anymore. After about 1 minute of screaching smoking and hissing of melting tiresThe ford pulled out of the smoke dragging that chevy around as if it were a toy car this was a shock evan to me. Though Im a full time Ford Guy I truly thought the ford would lose due to the I6 Engin but the man driving the ford new better he did one lap around the ENTIRE CAR WASH!!!!!!! with the chevy behinde him it was rather funny. When thay were done the chevy guy left the lot with out another word said.
Awesome! Sounds like high school parking lot all over again! Sometimes the local rednecks do this behind McDonalds. One guy in a lifted '78 F150 stepside 4spd hooked to my buddy in a 95 chevy 2500 350 auto one time- on concrete- in 4x4! My buddy let his truck roll back a little bit when they started, they he stood on the brakes. The Ford instantly hopped up and down about 3 times to what looked like a good 2ft in the air, and he snapped the yoke off his tranny and the transfer case! Hilarious. My buddy then drug him around the drive through broke. When tugging, it all matters where the torque is. Check out www.trucktuggers.org. This is a local crew. My bosses truck is the purple w/flames, his brother's is the greenw/purple flames, and his other brother's burnt orange w/green flames. We built and painted all of these where I work. Pretty funny stuff. Most of the 2wd trucks run 292s, 4spds, and 6:17 gears. Makes for a light frontend, and brute low end torque.
I sure hate it when somebody doesn't respect my truck. There truck is so superior to mine. Then actually tells it to my face. That really burns me up. I have many friends who drive other brands of trucks.but I respect theirs and they respect mine. A friend of mine thinks like I do. Don't run his truck down. He says Lets go. Whatever you wann do. He earns there respect. Another motor I respect is that ford300I6. That motor has made fools out of a lot of people including that Chevy guy. I could have told him right away he might be in trouble. The worst part about this is he pe\probably still has no respect for ford. Just my thoughts. Thanks.
Everyone alway teases me about my 78 green machine in my gallery. Wait until i hook my tow strap up to them, put her in granny low and 4lo, but still in 4x2. air down my 15-38.5's and let the locker and the lift do the work. They will pull my rear down giving me more traction, plus i will have outgeared them. Then just let he 390 have it, that chevy owner will regret even looking funny at my truck.
So were they both open diffs, was one a limited slip. What kind of tires were on each? So the Chevy Obviously out powered and Out torqued the 300, so the only explanation is that the chevy lost traction first.. These tug wars prove nothing other than you have 2 idiots behind the wheel willing to tear up their trucks.
I gotta tell you, I have been stuck quite a few times and always managed to be pulled out by a chevy, (of course it was in a 72 landcruiser..L)
Whoever loses traction first loses, its that simple, doesnt matter if its a ford, a dodge, or chevy.. these little tugs Usually end up with something breaking.
The 350 does not outtorque the 300 in the rpm range they were at. The 300 is a power house when it comes to torque. Does not surprise me much. the 300 would certainly give a 351 a run for its money.
Usually when your pulling something, especially a tug of war, then your surely not at low rpm.. If your pulling hard enough for the smoke to be rolling off the tires, then your definitley up there in at least the Mid range of the rpms, if not higher.
we do what we call "hitchens" in my high school parking lot and one technique i have found is very good against a guy with a huge ego is to stomp on the brakes soon as they say go b/c the person with a huge ego will usually put the pedal to the medal right away and they just start smoking their tires right away once they start smoking then you get on it and they have no traction so u will prolly win
Hey teenagegearhead. I haven't heard that one before. Boy I sure wish I was in high school again. Boy I would have fun. Id sure deflate a lot of egoes in a hurry. Id probably get a big ego myself.
Any one notice the amount of fords on that web site? Truck tugging is just like drag racing or street racing just another form of automobile compitetion and doing any of these thing will tear a truck up but these people are not idiots they just have a score to settle. Plus these old trucks can take a beating and if they break they are easy to fix.
truck tugging is kinda cool. I have never done it as the group of guys i hang out whith are realy cool, even though they are all GM guys. They are all vary impressed whith my F-150 and the 4.9L in it. It is a vary torqe motor, in low gear it will pull the left front and i dont have many mods on it either
A briggs and stratton powered bulldozer would win any tug of war between itself and any pickup truck / chassis cab truck.
It simply comes down to weight, traction(and between trucks - driver experience) - nothing more.
Hey I agree with you totally. Even though our egos get a boost when one truck wins over another. It is just really sillines and childish. Weare all guilty of that once in a while.
