I finally got to race my truck on the drag strip last night and let me tell ya... it was freakin' awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! i don't think i've ever had so much fun with my truck since i've owned it. the death row diesel drag day was a blast, although i had the slowest truck in our group. my best pass was a 17.7 at 78.08 mph and my worst pass was an 18.5 at 78.02. i only ran those 2 times since it was a mad house out there. there were A LOT of cars out there. the 18 second run was my first and i didn't rev it up enough and i popped the clutch too fast and ended up bogging the truck down. the 2nd time i launched better w/out bogging, but i could have left at a higher rpm. also i could change from 2nd to 3rd gear faster. i never did get to 5th gear the in either pass, which is why i like my 3.55 gears. 4th gear and 80mph. i'm gonna have to go out there after every mod that i put on my truck from here on. I love drag racing!!!! cody, i partially blame you, but it's a good thing. and i also would like to say thanks a lot for putting on the drag day and thanks for letting me use your IDM. it was a lot of fun and i can't wait til the next time we go.
cOOn, not really. Travis and I were the only two obs trucks in the crew. The rest are dodges, and superdutys. I managed only a 15.4 at 92 mph. But I could never get my truck to hook. I immediately blew the tires away on the launch. Even after doing a burnout. If I had been thinking I would have lowered my tire psi to about 45psi instead of 80 in all four rears.
Travis, you are welcome. I'm sorry it was too hectic to put the IDM on at the track. But like Mark said, I can only do so much. So use it and enjoy it.
dont do burnouts on radials, thats a big no-no. if you want to spin them at all then drive around the water box and spin on dry pavement. DO NOT GET THE TIRES WET. spin just enough to get the rocks off, no smoke. that will get your best hookability (new word in the c00n dictionary), for the tires 40-45 would probably work ok, spin them on concrete to get a look at your contact pattern, every tire is different.
Neal my opinion on your truck would be hold at 2400, pop the clutch just enough to plant the rear and get her moving yet slip it a little till she moves out then dump the rest of the way. wish i still had the stang or i'd make a movie for ya but one of the 2 had to go so i desided to keep the charger
rubber, what was your 60 ft time? and what mods do you have? your mph is more like a 14.3- 14.5 run so i assume you spun pretty bad? A 2.5 60 ft?
I understand the no water philosophy but I thought I would need to get them hot to stick better. I don't think it is possible to slip it in firstsince it is only good for about 10 feet in first then second is mandatory. I have heard of people skipping first and starting in second but that seems too stressful to me. I never raced this one so I guess it will be a whole new learning experience. I'm just gathering info for when she is ready...not yet but waiting patiently.
i launched in 2nd gear with no problems neal. my first pass i launched at a much lower rpm than i wanted to. i launched at around 1200 rpm the first time around, but the second time i was able to launch it at 2200-2300 rpm and that worked pretty good. i didn't spin and only slipped the clutch enough so the truck would get moving without going below 2000 rpm. my reaction times were both very low 1's. here is the times from my passes........
wow, she really dies in top end, something about aerodynamics and bricks......2.6 60 foot isnt too bad, keep playing, you should be able to get down to 2.0 with a 1st gear launch and a good speed shift
oh, neal spinning the radials causes them to get slippery, not sticky, they work the oppositte of slicks as slicks are treated and heating them causes the sticky stuff to come out (very technical terms, i hope you can follow) radials arent designed to get spun
strokin, wake up at the lights.....lol and yank harder, dont use so much clutch, you can drop a good second off your times in your shifts just from reading the numbers
I understand tire talk but I have raced several cars mostly smaller ones on used or defective/new pirelli's and we always heated them up. Then again I know I have BFG's and they are another beast altogether.

cOOn, my 60's were 2.6 and 3.0. Yeah, I spun really bad and lifted just to let them catch up. I'm not sure if I coulda pulled a 14.3 if I did hook but who knows. I really had my head up my butt, I was just too excited. I'm sure if I woulda just lowered my psi, it would have hooked.
i was only shifting through 2 gears. it took me a tiny bit longer to hit 3rd becuase it's such a long shift. i got to 4th gear really fast, but i think i should have hit 5th gear instead of trying to stay in 4th at 3000 rpm. if i put 'er up in 5th after i'm rollin 75-80 mph she'll get on up and run better than trying to run it at a really high rpm in 4th at 75mph. i will get it all together, it just takes practice runs. i won't launch in 1st becuase it doesn't have enough speed in it. although i have 3.55's it still doesn't take but a split second to get through 1st gear. i know i can get my reaction times under a 1, but both times i was trying to figure out other things, such as why Hagen got thrown off the track, then all of a sudden the guy hit a button and the light went green. i will be practicing more now that i've tried it.
