I have a set of D2TEAA heads from a 76 FE390 F100 truck, I was removing the valves and I notice that on top of each of the exahust chambers there is a screw plug, and inside the chamber coming form that screw plug is a pipe about 1/4" in diameter and about 2 inches long, what are those pipes, and can I just remove them and leave the screw plug in place?
It's smog stuff. I did that on my 66 F100's C6TEG's and havent had any issues.. I do see some bubbling around the base of the plug when it's first warming up but it clears up and hasn't been an issue as far as I can tell. Thing runs like a top "in circles all over the road" LOL
Ok, thanks for the info. More questions, I need to install new valves on the heads, could I use the CJ valves, and would it be worth it. Can the machine shop install them with out a problem and where can buy them, which ones do you guys recomend.
I would consider doing a lot of reading and studying other picts before you attempt it. Can be done but "as a novice" I can say it's not for the novice.. your better off just sanding out the casting slag and calling it a day.... thye time it takes to do it right I now see why guys make 5-600 for a set of heads...easy 3-4 days work to get it right.
Redmanbob, I was planning on using the intake gasket to open the intake port on the heads, and sanding the casting slag. By the way I am planning on buying a Edelbrock Performance RPM intake.
