Our Falcon is in the shop waiting for it's new straight axle and disc brake setup, so we took our 240ZV8 "road race car" to the drags tonight. We were the second slowest car there at 12.83 @ 106 mph. Most of the cars were in the low 11 second bracket with cars and trucks from 8.95 to 12.75 Our car was the only street car there. All the others were drag strip only cars. It was like going to a gun fight with a fly swatter.
The only trucks there were Chevy Elcamino's, of which one of them I beat. He had a 454 and nice looking wide slicks.
I can't wait until our FE Ford is ready to hold up the Ford banner.
what year falcon?I'm building a '63 falcon into a v8 289.Hard to make progrees without a garage tho.
Look under my post. 1960 Falcon.
We are doing a complete overhaul of it. Better front suspension, electronic ignition, 150 more hp, new tires and wheels, full roll cage, new shifter, upgraded C-6 transmission are among the many changes. I am hoping that it is complete by the end of April. It should put out a little over 800 hp with nitrous, so I had to upgrade the brakes to disc, roller cam, lifters, rockers, the ignition to MSD billet distributor, 6al box, nitrous retard, new 11.5 drag slicks and wheels, and matching small wheels and tires for the front. TCI shifter, modified C-6 trans, to hold up to 900 hp, new fuel cell, lines, pumps etc. New sub connectors to stiffen the body etc. etc. Our 240Z is a road race car built for the Silver State race in Nevada, and very high geared. Not drag strip friendly. But, since the Falcon is still being built, we took the 240Z out to have some fun.
12.83 is not very fast now days.
Our old setup in the Falcon ran 10.79 at 125 mph, so we should be faster, quicker and safer with all these changes.
How did you get an fe to fit? What did you have to move/remove to get that block in?I thought about putting a 390 in mine, but seemed like more chopping than a cheap horror flick.
Remove the shock towers and replace with a straight axle. You can go with a new mustang II front suspension that has 10 inch disc brakes for around $4,500 or go with the straight axle like I am doing with 11 inch disc brakes for $3,500. If it is a drag strip only car, then the straight axle is the way to go. If you are going to put it on the street, then the Mustang II is the way to go. The FE has plenty of room once you remove the shock towers. I will post pictures after I get everything together. The master brake cylinder needs to be one without the power booster for clearance on the driver side valve cover. Everything is easy to get to without the shock towers.
Is the straight axle out of an f100 ? or ? I'm looking at a 65 Mercury Comet at the moment. Really tempted to go get it!
No, it is a new unit from Speedway Motors. The shop who is doing the work ordered the unit, along with the brakes, rotors, brake lines, master cylinder, proportioning valve, line lock, etc. It is supposed to arrive at the shop this next Thursday. They say it will take two days to install all the parts. We have a 9 inch posi rear end of which they went through and replaced the brake cylinders, wheel bearings and seals, and new lines to work with the new disc brake system on the front. The original straight axle is old and worn out, so we are going to replace it with the new, more modern "better, safer" unit.
When it gets here, I'll post the part numbers.

Haha I wish I had that kind of money to put into my things!
The old flattop 427 that's in my 406 Galaxie right now used to be in a '62 Falcon drag car, Econoline axle, 14x32's & C-6, had 406 heads, Street Dominator/ 850, ran similar- 10.80@126. The engine now has a much better set of heads, 2x4MR intake, and a little more cam, 4000 converter, and 5.14's in the Gal- street fun.
My Falcon's about 1/2 done, '64, Alston 7.50 frame & cage, Strange brakes, suspension & rack, fibreglas doors & trunk, 16.5x33's, and a 514SVO- should also be fun

Sounds like it is going to be a very fun ride. I love to see the Mustangs at the track, but it is nice to see other Fords beating the Chevy's. I decided not to use our 427 because I am holding it back for use in a kit car. We only have one 427, but have three 428 engines. A 514 built right should make much more hp than a 427 FE engine, so you should have a very fast Falcon.
NO KIDS HERE!! Spent all mine on booze & Hookers!!! lmao!!
No seriously, the original straight axle was from a ? I wont be going with a 5k item on anything for many years to come lol
It was a round tube, home made axle.
From inside backing plate to inside backing plate it is 55.25 inches. The front leaf springs are 28 1/4 inches center to center.
There is a guy who converts the E100 Econoline drum brakes to disc. I think the E100 axle is the correct length for our Falcons.
His name is Dennis at [dennis@dddiscbrakes.com] This might be the economical way to go.
Our new axle will be 1.25 inches shorter, and have a 1.5 inch drop.
The old axle is worn out and not safe to use at the speeds we will be going.
Lloyd Brakes? WTF? Brakes only slow you down....lol...we ran a 4" drop tube at 4* back rake on the Altered....even tho the fasted I ever had it was a little over 160mph..It drove like it was on rails... It did steer to fast with the butterfly steering wheel..lol..I think it needed a football field just to turn around tho...But it went straight!
I still cant believe I use to race that thing on the streets out by L.A.X.....LOL..Pershing Dr...
