Help Weird Brake Noise????

When i push down on the brake pedel i hear a wining noise kind of like when the power steering pump is going out. Also i think that my power steering pump is going out. Could the power steering pump and the brake be somehow connected?

Yes. Our trucks use the power steering pump as a brake booster, its all part of one pressurized system. If your power steering pump goes out, you will loose your brakes, or..at least most of them.

Better get that pump replaced ASAP.

From: Rio Rico, AZ.
It could also *possibly* be a problem with the brake booster itself.

I suppose she/he could flush the pump with new fluid, see if that makes a difference.

Well yesterday i went and got some of that Lucas power steering pump stop leak and i put the bottle and the truck has been running awsome. No more noise. If that does not work i will be installing a new power steering pump.

FWIW, I will tell you of my experience with a noisy pump.
Different vehicle but the operating principles apply.
PS pumps are a vane type pump.
Rotary vane pump - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This car came in with a screaming pump, I mean LOUD. Both the owner of the car and I agreed that the pump had to be the culprit. There was no PS filter to get clogged and starve the pump.
I replaced it and the sound was exactly the same!
At that point, the only other thing it could have been was the steering rack and the owner did not want to spend that much money on the car.
He was understanding with my side of the coin and agreed to buy the pump, but I absorbed the labor.

I was just out looking at it and the pump has a little leak on. I am going to get under there and see where exactly it is coming from. I think that i am going to have to bite the bullet and replace the power steering pump.
