Transmission Cooler

I've got a 2001 F250 4X4 Crew Cab with the V10 and auto tranny. It came with the "tow package" and "camper package" but I can't find anywhere that it says I have a bigger tranny cooler.

Does anyone know if the cooler was included in one of the above packages?

I'll be towing a 28' travel trailer this summer and don't want to overheat anything. Peace of mind is a priceless thing...

Edmo, I heard that the Superduty cooler is located behind the front bumper. Is that true?

The tranny cooler is located between the A/C condenser and the radiator. It's about 12" x 30". The little cooler(5"x8")that's behind the bumper is for the power steering. If you peal back the rubber on top of the grill, you can see tranny cooler down towards the bottom. If you're worried about heat install a tranny guage. They run about $50. Sometime in 2001, Ford switched from a oil to air only cooling system to an oil to air and oil to coolant system for the transmission. Check your radiator to see if it has transmission lines going into it. If it doesn't and you're having over heating problems with the tranny, Ford has a TSB out to replace the radiator with one with tranny cooling capabilities. You have to be under the 3/36 to qualify. I don't think you'll have any problems. I tow a 28 footer in AZ and even in the summer I've never had temps higher than 185-190.

Thanks guys... I'll peel back the plastic and look. It wasn't readily visible, so I didn't know if I had one or not.

We are moving from Anchorage, Alaska to Little Rock, Arkansas this summer and I will tow my travel trailer all the way down. It'll go from daytime highs of 70s in Anchorage to the upper 90s by the time I get down south. It should be an adventure!

Case solved... I've got 4 coolers: Engine radiator (big one in back), A/C radiator (front one), Power steering cooler (small one behind bumper), & tranny cooler (between the engine radiator and A/C radiator). The tranny cooler was just where you said... Peel back the black plastic cover over the radiator and there it is sandwiched between the engine radiator and the A/C radiator.

Thanks

Good luck on your trip to AR this Summer. Maybe I'll bump into you on the Kenai before you go. Not too hard to spot one of our trucks. My wife likes to say you can see our truck and trailer from space.

We plan to take our travel trailer out as much as possible before we leave. The Kenai is in the works somewhere!

See ya
