I know your tenure with Ford may have ended before the 6r140 program was in full swing, but you wouldn't happen to have any info on it would you?

Not very much. It has no relation to the current TorqShift. It is a completely new design.

No chit?! WOW! I'd really rather have a 6-speed manual. Had no idea I could just turn off the tranny functions in the existing ECU. Reps!

Mark IS Mr. Transmission-know-it-all, when it comes to the 4R100 and the TorqShift (5R110).

Exactly. Mark didn't say anything wrong.

Well put.

Nor should they be.

And you launch with insults.

We don't need this here. If you want to insult people, go to Pirate 4x4, or some other trash-talking site where they allow that sort of thing. Oh, that's right, lots of people don't bother going there anymore because they have to wade through piles of BS to find something out.

And with that being said, when more information comes out I may try to work on retrofitting a 6r140 into a duty. If I could get that to work I could see it becoming very popular, much more so than a Gear Vendors overdrive unit.

And what's special about the 6R140?

Six gears instead of five, plus it's a double overdrive. That should translate into a nice increase in mileage, if the gears are spaced properly, while still being able to run 4.30s.

The double overdrive might work out well for a diesel, but for the V10, I suspect you will need a lot more go-pedal (or at least, the servo-operated throttle body will have to open more) which will probably ruin any gas mileage increase.

Meaning, say you're running at 1200RPMs at highway speeds. That will probably be too low in RPMs for any decent efficiency.

With 4.30s I suspect highway speeds would be around 1800-1900 rpm at about 70mph. That should put very little additional load on the engine. Think of it as the mileage difference between 3.73s and 4.30s.

I just am not seeing the advantage to double overdrive for the V10 or any of the gassers for that matter. When towing heavy especially in the hills a fairly low first gear and then 4 fairly close ratios up to 1:1 will work great. The closer you can keep the V10 to its sweet spot the better. A dual OD may be good for the diesel but not the V10 or other gassers. At the base of a hill I'm out of OD and into 3rd (1:1) and sometimes 2nd so OD is useless then. I don't buy trucks for mpg and don't expect it to get good mpg. Too many people buying big trucks and using them as mall crawlers and want good mpg.

You'll be able to run in OD at 1800-1900rpm when empty with the V10 but thats about it. The trans will hunt when loaded and even unloaded when a hill comes up. To run that low of an rpm at 70 you need the low rpm, high torque of a diesel. I run 2000rpm at 70mph and I can pull a decent hill with my truck in OD unloaded but when loaded forget about OD for hills it don't work good.

Look at it this way. Anywhere a 2v (especially a non-pi) with 3.73s can tow something in OD a 3v with 4.30s could easily do in a second OD.

Depends what the 2nd OD ratio is. To get the rpm at 70mph your talking about, the OD would be super steep with 4.30s.(Sort of like the Toyota Tundras setup) The 3V doesn't have that much more torque than the 2V PI and both prefer the same rpm ranges.
